Meet Marlie!
UPDATE 11/21/21:
Marlie is a lovely young Shepherd mix, who is 7-8 months old. She probably has already reached 30-35 pounds by now since she just had a growth spurt and she is getting taller! Marlie is a beautiful girl, not only physically with her slender/athletic look, but also with her personality. She has a beautiful disposition and is such an easy girl to love and care for. It’s a shame that she has been with ARWOB for months as she has grown, without a family of her own to watch her grow up!
Marlie has been with ARWOB since July 2021, and her sister was already adopted. She has been fostered in a home with other dogs and cats, and also spent the month of October in a foster home with 3 small children and a cat. Marlie enjoyed going on daily walks around the neighborhood with her foster family and their kids (she is fantastic around children) and also off leash at Fiesta Island, which she loved! However, the foster family had to go out of town for some time, so Marlie came back to her current foster.
Now that Marlie is back at Casa de ARWOB, she is being fostered with some of her dog friends, such as Junior, Rosie, Copper, Lady, and Alba. In case anyone would like to adopt 2 dogs, Marlie has plenty of available dog friends! She also has kitty friends, such as Flounder and Figaro, in case you are looking to adopt a cat and a dog! Ha, ha!
We do not know what breed Marlie is, but she is likely a Shepherd mix. Given that she is slender, tall, and much smaller than a regular German Shepherd Dog, we expect she will be in the 40-50 pound range when she is full grown. Our best guess is she will reach 45 pounds.
Marlie would do best in a home with another dog OR in a home with an adopter that will make sure she spend regular time with her own kind. This means frequent visits to the dog park or even doggy day care, as she just loves being around other dogs. She is very friendly and people oriented, and is very mindful and gentle towards everyone. She is more reserved than most of the happy-go-lucky “licky face” dogs, so we could say she is very “regal” and proper around people, which is great if you do not like dogs running up to you and licking you to death.
Marlie is crate trained and she is mostly house trained, although she will need to adjust to a new home schedule and a new potty plan. She enjoys her toys and also playing tug-of-war. She rides well in the car and is pretty good on leash, showing no leash reactivity and doesn’t pull on leash a lot. However, we highly encourage that her adopter enroll her in dog training classes. We always recommend training to all dog adopters, as it will be a lifetime investment in having a very well behaved dog. It is also an excellent way to bond and enjoy activities together with your new furry friend!
If you are interested in adopting this gorgeous girl, please submit an online application at www.arwob.org. We will call or email you to follow up either the same day or within 72 hours.
