Valentino is a beautiful pure bred chocolate lab. He came to live in long-term foster care on Valentine’s Day in 2010. At just 3 months old his breeders planned to put him down because Valentino is blind. You’d never know it to see him running around the ranch with the horses, dogs, and goats; Valentino doesn’t let his disabilities hold him back in the slightest. We recently started to notice that Valentino doesn’t hear well either, but that boy makes up for his disabilities with the keenest sense of smell! In fact, we have to be incredibly cautious when visitors and new workers come to the property; If Valentino doesn’t recognize their scent he’ll have them backed up into the fence in seconds. Valentino and Kelly, a rescued Collie, are best buds and love to run off to play together. He absolutely loves water and whittles away many hours just sitting in his own little swimming pool. Valentino is the only dog at Tina Jo’s Promise that howls at the full moon. How he knows it’s a full moon always leaves us scratching our heads, but sure enough, come that full moon Valentino starts to howl until he gets the whole pack going!
