Tortuga (Spanish for 'Turtle') is a young adult doxi/terrier mix who was found by a good Sam at a dog park and was turned in to the local shelter. Unfortunately for Turtle months passed and her owners never claimed her back. Even after spending 3 long months in the shelter Tortuga never lost hope and we decided to help her find a true loving family who will make sure she never leaves their sight again, and if she does they will look under every rock to get her back!
We named her Tortuga not because she loves the water and is green but because we believe she was very slow to warm up in a shelter environment and potential adopters kept passing her by until one day we noticed her true loving personality and decided she just need out and into a home environment. We were right, within the first minute of getting her in the car she snapped out of her shy shell and loved on her rescuer until she arrived to her destination. We believe Tortuga is a young adult at maybe 2-3 yrs old, healthy and as of 12/10/10 20 pounds which is her max. weight and is shorter than knee high. She has the looks of a Doxi but the longer legs of a terrier so she would actually do very well in a home who will keep her active for walks or short runs as she loves to run around with her doggy friends. She does well with large or small dogs and is perfect around people and children. She actually would LOVE children or someone who will be a great companion for her. She hasn't been tested around kitties but she will probably be great with them, we can test her is requested. She does well on the leash, the car and is crate trained.
Tortuga has a mighty bark, so don't let her small size fool you yet she is not a 'yappy' girl which is great. She has a longer nose and occasionally as you can see on her pictures one of her ears will 'flop' to the side adding more charm to this little loving sweet girl.
If you would like to meet Tortuga we do ask that you file an adoption application online in order for us to know a little about you and will contact you within 24 hrs. Thank you! www.arwob.org
