Meet Goldie!
Goldie (fka blondie) is a gorgeous foxy girl who has the CUTEST fox/coyote face :)
She was rescued from Ensenada Mexico in September 2022 when she was just 6-9mo old. She Arrived San Diego to receive medical (spay, vaccines, etc) and has been ready for adoption since late October 2022. As of March 15th she is full grown at 34 pounds. She looks like a larger dog in pictures and sometimes in person because she has that right size. She is under a year and a half and such a loving, fun, good hearted pup still in search of a forever family.
Goldie is a healthy girl, UTD on all medical. Nothing to report in medical side.
Let's talk about behavior, personality and notes of who she is:
Foster home wise she has only been with our president and founder living at her home which we call 'casa de ARWOB' aka headquarters where typically the older pups or adult/senior dogs are fostered for lack of foster families until they find forever families. So, typically a home with a yard, crate trained, and exposed to different doggo friends and kitties (for those who are cat friendly) they live in a home environment and all are crate trained, dog friendly, some mostly or almost house trained (as long as supervised and continue to receive help and guidance in their new foster or adoptive homes) and they all know they need to not be 'barky/loud' doggos with manners. We know our dogs personalities VERY well, although ALL still will need dog trianing/obedience as ARWOBers we believe dog ownership involves DOG training, discipline, structure, schedule, and of course LOVE. When we say "X dog will need to sign up for dog training" is not because its a bad dog, its because they are DOGS which means they depend on their humans to help/guide them to learn well behaved NOW so they can be an excellent companion/family member for YEARS to come. Obedience and love have to come hand in hand it doesn't matter if its a Maltese, poodle, chihuahua, golden retriever, German shepherd or pit bull.
Behavior/Personality/Notes from foster:
Would Goldie be good in a home:
With children? Absolutely! Like any dog intro to children by adult supervision and slow/gentle interactions for trust to be built.
With dogs? Of course! All dogs like Goldie, except for a few. Tessa (also with us) does NOT like Goldie. Tessa is an alpha personality who may take advantage of the fear she can instill in her.
With cats? LIKELY, she does run around casa de arwob around cats and she is not going to 'go for them' or 'bark at them' but also sometimes she stares. She also is interested in little creatures like mice/birds/squirrels - so her prey drive is NOT high but CAN be. So, if cat owners we strongly recommend a 2-3 week foster trial and for her to be crated when not home being supervised.
With pocket pets (rabbits/hamsters/birds)? - We don't think she could truly be trusted so they would need to be kept separate.
Would she be best in a home/yard or Apartment? EITHER should be fine. Her energy and vocalization level is that of a normal dog, nothing 'extra' about her so the right training and meeting her exercise/energy needs (walks.runs.hikes. any form of exercise to burn energy and mental stimulation will meet her needs)
Separation Anxiety/Vocalization Level? Not bad. Not quiet as a mouse either. She only barks when there is something to be warned about like sensing someone in the property or another dog in the neighborhood going off.
Here are a few notes about Goldie from her foster mom at ARWOB:
- Looking to adopt 2 dogs? Goldie is great friends with dogs like Butter cup (BFF) and of course Vincent, Winnie, Agatha, Salome and adores her Boyfriend Cooper :)
- Goldie is crate trained. Sleeps at night 8hrs and through the day she goes into the kennel several times a day for 2-4hr stints. She is very quiet and comfortable in her crate. Doesn't destroy her bedding either.
- We can't say she is house trained because when in the house has access to the yard but she has never gone potty in the house,, unless it was a rainy day :)
- She used to be very mouthy/chewy stages with things like furniture. That stage is mostly gone, still LOVES to chew but any good toys/hard plastic chewing bone/toy is perfect for her to be distracted for a while. She respects baby gate boundaries pretty well too, used to jump them but now she understands not allowed to enter certain parts of the home at certain times.
- She rides very well in cars - not car sick.
- She is not bad on the leash walks, never had training for a dog who has never had dog trianing or one person/family to work with her she is pretty great, will need work that any good family/adopter ready to take on a new family member should be ready to do. Level 1-6 for pulling would say 2-3
- Leash reactivity towards dogs or people? Not seen towards people. Towards dogs, ONLY depending on the handler. If it's normal vvolunteers havezero problem approaching/seeing other dogs, if the handler is a fresh volunteer with no experience on walking/observing dogs she may bark at another dog but super easily corrected. NOT reactive.
- Goldie is VERY loving. Someone looking for a dog with a big beautiful smile, who melts when you touch/pet/scratch her neck/face would be very happy with this girl. She loves to play around in the yard but if she sees a person sitting ddown, she will always choose to come to the person for some love.
- She would be completely fine with a family with children or a retired couple or single working adult she is that good BUT also could fail in any of these settings if no structure, obedience and guidance is given because after all she is a young potential shepherd mix who is smart and will test the waters like ALL dogs to see what she can and can't do.
- Since she is at casa de ARWOB - she can benefit from a one on one foster. If you'd like to help a dog by being a foster parent (temporary care) OR would like to adopt Goldie but aren't sure if she is the right match for you, test the waters by doing a 2 week foster to adopt trial.
- To Adopt or Foster to adopt Trial (FTA trial) = Please submit an adoption application.
- If you'd like to ONLY foster with NO intent to adopt = Please submit a foster application.
- Her adoption fee is $300 and adopters receive medical record the day of adoption, if fostering to adopt there is NO fee UNLESS you decide to adopt her at end of the FTA trial.
- Foster homes are provided with all materials you request/needed ei crate, food, toys, corral, pee pads, etc if needed
