Meet Novak!
UPDATE 9-15-21: Here is what we know about this handsome boy:
Novak is in need of a foster or an adopter asap! We offer foster-to-adopt trials for anyone interested in seeing if he might be a good fit for their family. He LOVES people and he probably would prefer to be next to “his person” rather than playing with dogs, but he does enjoy playing with his friends. This handsome boy is sadly under socialized, which means the world is “new to him” since he had been kept isolated by the family who originally rescued him in Mexico. Walking on a leash and meeting new people and other dogs is new to him. He will initially bark at new people and dogs as a warning, but will stop and say hello when he is close. He is very gentle on a leash and doesn’t pull for the most part and is really a very gentle soul. He just needs to learn that scary new things are actually okay and there is nothing to be afraid of. Novak is crate trained and almost house trained. He has been introduced to cats, but he will bark at them, although not in a predatory way. Since has hasn’t seen cats before, he is more worried/scared of them and he probably thinks that if he reacts, those “little scary monsters” will leave him alone. He would do well in a home with children (once he gets to know them with a proper introduction) and with other dogs. For now, we suggest a home without cats. He does well riding in the car and loves to walk between your legs, so we would not recommend a foster or adopter that might easily trip over him.
Novak needs a foster or adopter that is able to socialize him by taking him for walks and outings so that he can learn what the world is about. He missed this key socialization period when he was first rescued in Mexico and isolated from the world.
ORIGINAL RESCUE STORY:
Novak was found by a good Samaritan in Mexico, while he was taking his morning walk. He heard the cries of a small puppy and found Novak had been dumped in an empty lot. The little guy was infested with fleas and ticks and looked to be under the weather. Novak was immediately taken to the vet and started to feel much better soon after his visit. The good Sam and his wife were originally thinking about keeping Novak, but they had a change of heart because a puppy has a lot of energy and needs a lot of attention, which would not fit in with their lifestyle. They heard about our Indie rescuer in the area and reached out to them to see if Novak would be a good candidate for adoption in the USA.
Novak is now in San Diego and looking for a forever, loving home! He is very playful and obedient. When he lived in Mexico with his good Samaritan rescuer, he was the only dog in the household with two senior human adults. Because he is a puppy, he will likely get along with mostly everyone, but we will update his profile as we learn more about him. He will need an adopter that is willing to do the typical puppy training for a dog his age.
Novak can meet potential adopters right away. If all goes well with his meet and greet, he can potentially go home that SAME DAY. However, he will be sterilized in the 92104 area of San Diego on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. The sterilization surgery is already included in his adoption fee. This means priority will given to local area applicants. This will ensure the adopter is able to take their new puppy to the pre-scheduled surgery appointment and then pick him up at the end of the day after surgery. Please do NOT submit an application if you do not live in the San Diego area. If you would like to adopt and live outside of San Diego area, you are welcome to wait until his sterilization surgery has been completed to see if he is still available at that time (please note that we do not place holds on any of our rescues).
If you are interested in adopting this handsome little man, please submit an online application at www.arwob.org Don’t wait!
