Meet Nabisco!
UPDATE 6-15-21: Here is what Nabisco's foster family has to say:
"Nabisco is also great with kids, he has been great with my kids and all the random kids that have come over for playdates. He is super calm and sweet and I haven't heard him growl or run away from any kids. He is gentle and everyone loves him. I think he would do great in a family with kids and people (even in an apartment because he is so calm). He loves to snuggle and isn't hyper or destructive. My kids just loved him, he hung out on the kids beds and just seemed to enjoy being with them. He also greets everyone with love and happiness and is so sweet. His only issue, which has been more challenging than GG's, is that he has exhibited food and guarding issues. It took a few days for it to come out so it isn't readily apparent. He spent the first few days playing with my dogs and seemed perfect but then he didn't just growl but actually lunged at GG and my dogs a few times. We never fed them together but once when we opened the door of the office where we fed Bisco and the other dogs came in, he lunged and snarled at GG. Once, when we gave him a breakfast chicken jerky outside by himself and then 10 minutes later, the other dogs when outside and he snarled and lunged at them. Also, once when he was snuggling with me on the couch, my dog came over and he growled and then snarled and lunged at her like he was guarding me? My two dogs haven't played with him at all the last 2 days and my male dog has been avoiding him. We have been letting them all hang in the house/backyard with no issues but we definitely have been separating them for a long time when food is around (we also haven't been letting him on the couch). So, overall, he is sooo sweet with kids and people and would be fine playing with dogs at the beach and parks but I wouldn't put him with a family with a dog (or he may just need an experienced trainer). He is also the perfect size and loves dog toys. He is also an amazing snuggler on the couch."
ORIGINAL RESCUE STORY:
This adorable pup is from Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico (about 1,400 miles south of the USA border!). We flew him in at the request of a friend, who volunteers with a shelter in that area. We don't know his back story, but we do know is he has a fantastic, sweet, quiet, fun and loving personality. He is under 25 pounds and already full grown. He looks like a “bite sized” shepherd mix! Therefore, we think he is part Beagle and Pug mix, but he may also have some Chihuahua in his genes. Who knows?!
Nabisco is really sweet and he enjoys humans a lot. We have not had him around children, but he will likely be very sweet with kids. He has done great with all dogs, both big and small, young and adult. However, he can stand up for himself and is not a pushover around other dogs. He has seen some indoor house kitties and he has not shown us if he is indifferent towards them or just nervous and not sure how to react. We can test him around cats if requested. Nabisco does fantastic in his crate and rides well in the car. We have not heard him bark, so we would say he is not a “barky” kind of dog. He is calm and likes his naps, but he’s also happy-go-lucky and enjoys playtime. We noticed he seems to enjoy squeaky toys. :-)
Nabisco is ready to go home now! To meet and adopt this handsome boy, please submit an online adoption application TODAY at www.arwob.org. Don’t wait!
