Meet Surprise Bear!

UPDATE 1-22-21:

WHY is Surprise Bear still with us?  It’s because typically it is the best one that people do not take notice of!  She is simply THE BEST pup!!  Well, at least her foster mom thinks so and this is what she has to say about her:

“Surprise Bear is adorable, super friendly and outgoing.  She is an active and happy 4-5 month old puppy, who is approximately 25-30 pounds.  She will likely grow to be a medium/large dog at 50-65 pounds when full grown.  She is amazing with adults and children, and she just adores her kitty and doggy friends in her foster home.  She is always excited to meet other 4-legged friends and would do best in a home with tolerant dogs, who are okay with a “licky face” puppy who does not quite understand boundaries.  When she first meets other animals, her reaction is “I love you! I love you! Wanna be my friend!?”  She is typically that way with ALL new friends, both 4-legged and 2-legged alike.

Surprise is very food and toy motivated and with some puppy training, she certainly will learn and likely improve her emotional control.  Ha, ha!  She is very submissive and all she really wants is to be friends with EVERYONE.  She is not a barker, but can be slightly whiny like many Shepherds can be when getting excited.  This happens sometimes when she gets excited about meeting new dogs or going out and about on an adventure, but she quickly quiets down after her initial excitement.  She is crate trained and makes it through 8 hours at night without any problems.  She is a very clean and patient girl, who is comfortable spending a couple of hours in the crate throughout the day, with many breaks to go play.  She enjoys car rides and does very well, and as such, Surprise would make an excellent family member!

Her ideal home will be with a family that has a yard and another dog to play with, as she just loves her doggo friends!  An added bonus would be if the adoptive home also had kids and cats!  But seriously, we would love to find a family who will provide her training and socialization to make sure she keeps on learning to be her best doggie self.  Training will ensure she will grow up to be an even more fantastic and friendly dog, who will remain happy, loved and well exercised too!”

ORIGINAL RESCUE STORY:

Meet the 8 Care Bears!  There’s Champ the boy and his 7 sisters!

These pups were rescued from Ensenada, in Baja California Mexico.  Their mom was rescued from the streets by a good Samaritan, who ended up deciding to adopt her.  The good Sam realized too late that the mom was pregnant and didn’t spay her in time.  The mother dog had 10 puppies!  However, 2 of the male pups were given away before ARWOB could pick up the entire crew and we were not able to intercept and get those 2 neutered before they were given away.  However, we were able to safely take in the remaining 8 pups and placed them in quarantine with a reliable foster in Ensenada.  The puppies will be coming to San Diego the weekend of December 5th!

We have included a photo of the mom, who looks like a mini husky/wolf and she is 40 pounds.  We do not know who the dads are, but the primary breeds are likely shepherd and Labrador.  Only 3 of the pups have the shepherd medium coat and the rest of the pups have short hair.  At only 3 months of age and between 10-13 pounds, we believe they will grow to be in the 35-50 pound range.  They will likely not be very big for a shepherd/lab mix dog.

Like all puppies, they are silly and active!  They will need an adopter that is ready to do lots of house training and socialization with both people and other dogs, which can be hard during the pandemic.

If you would like to adopt this adorable little girl, please submit an application online at arwob.org
