Poor sweet Valentino!! He was rescued from a "hoarding" situation where many cats/kittens lived in a home and he was exposed to many cats. We rescued him in early March of 2022. ARWOB tests their rescues for Felv and FIV and we were very happy to see that he was negative,..yay! He was placed in our CAC (cat adoption center) for adoption and 3 weeks later, volunteers reported Valentino was acting sickly and could feel ''masses" on him. We took him to the veterinarian and it was determined that ALL of his body lymph nodes were reacting to something. We decided to Felv test him again and, sadly, his test was positive. At that point we realized this once healthy NONE Felv kitty was exposed to the disease from where he was rescued from and a victim of negligence for being placed around other cats with unknown status. This poor guy could have been adopted back in March and have an amazing life, but his body was shutting down and we wanted to give him SOME time in a house/home living since he had spent his WHOLE 5 months of life in a cage. Thankfully, an AMAZING foster who was able to do short time fostering while in town could help Valentino be in hospice care at her home for 1-2 weeks. To our surprise this little guy turned the corner after 10 days in a home and under some meds and has been healthy and strong since 4/10/22 with almost ALL his lymph nodes going back to normal, his energy is back, his monstruous appetite is back and he is enjoying life! Unfortunately, his fostering was only short term and now he has until 6/6/22 to find a new long term foster or, even better, ADOPTER because he is NOT able to go into the adoption center since he is unable to be around other cats, unless they, too, are Feline Leukemia positive. We don't have ANY fosters able to help and he can't be placed in a kennel boarding situation, so this handsome boy is now again in DANGER without a safe plan and stability to offer him. Valentino is an absolute love, has been healthy, and nothing can make any of us happier than to find a loving foster or adopter home for this boy because he LOVES life and has so much to offer.
This is what his current foster mom Cheryl has to say about Valentino after fostering him for 8 weels" READ ON....THIS IS ONE VERY SPECIAL GUY WHO WILL STEAL YOUR HEART!!
After 4 weels" Valentino is the perfect balance of frisky and zen, affectionate and independent. He is such a joy to live with - he appreciates human companionship but at the same time is so good at entertaining himself with his toys and keeping track of all that is happening on the other side of the window/screen door. Since he is FeLV+, I think he either needs an owner who works from home or a fellow FeLV+ kity companion or even a cat friendly dog as he enjoys their canine companionship once he knows them. Since he is still so young, I don’t think being left alone all day would work for him."
Addition on May 22:
Now that Valentino has been with me for almost 8 weeks and has fully recovered from his cold and FeLV symptoms, I can truly say that he is a such a dear and so much fun. He is wicked smart and has taught himself how to fetch (see video). We play fetch 1-2 times a day and in addition to that, he has fun with his other toys and is completely fascinated with everything going on in his environment - running water, the sound of birds, the people and dogs walking by outside, etc. He chooses to always be in the same room with me and used to sleep by himself but now he is spending part of each night in bed with me. During the day, he alternately loves to play hard and then rest hard. This little guy loves life!
