This very handsome, long haired teen with such a silky coat was rescued from the streets when he was seen begging for food. His rescuer quickly realized that he was a young teen who was seeking attention, affectionate and receptive to being petted. He is not feral and obviously had exposure to humans as he enjoyed being petted, especially on his chin.
When first rescued, Dexter was extremely shy and scared. He had been trying to survive in the streets and did want to interact with humans, but needed to know that they were his friends. Our volunteers have really taken the time to work with him and earn his confidence. Although extremely shy and scared in his new temporary digs in the beginning, he has made tremendous progress in our cat adoption center with our volunteers. This sweet boy, has "blossomed" since first coming to the center.
Even though Dexter does not really enjoy being picked up and carried around, he has become a total lap cat and enjoys being near you or jumping onto a warm lap and becoming a purr machine who loves to be petted and brushed. Dexter is very playful and LOVES playtime with ALL toys and his "zoomies" can't help but bring a smile to your face! He seems to be the most at ease when there are not a number of other kitties running around, although he does enjoy playing with a single cat who is ok with his “ roughhousing” /exuberant playing. When he has more one on one time with his people, he is the most comfortable. He is still learning to trust sudden movements so a home with little children may not be the best for him.
A home with another adult cat who is male or female, friendly, playful and will not bully Dexter, as well as a quiet/easy going environment would be best for him. It is important that he has an adopter who is willing to work with him as he loves attention, being petted (total baby), and playing with toys. We are not sure about dogs, but we wouldn't be surprised that with the right dog and proper introduction, he might do well with a cat friendly dog.
We are open for foster to adopt trials for Dexter, especially with families who have children who are a little older (12 and up) because he could benefit from the extra attention focused solely on him that he is unable to receive at the adoption center when it is full of kits who are all are sharing time with the volunteers. Families interested in this boy should know we are happy to offer foster to adopt trials as long as the families know they will need to make the time to work with him to feel comfortable in his new surroundings.
Like all kittens, he would do best and be happier in a forever home with another cat in the home or an adopter looking to adopt a pair of feline friends. Dexter is residing at our Cat Adoption Center at the PetSmart in Clairemont 4253 Genesee ave 92117 and is READY to be adopted.... MEOW!
Adoption process:

*Once you submit an adoption application online if the cat you select is no longer available or is not a match for you but you are interested in other cats there is NO need to resubmit an application, just request ARWOB transfers that application to another rescue cat you'd like to meet which we currently have available for adoption or if you see someone in the future you'd like to meet please contact the group and request to reactive your application.
Notes for applicants:
-We do NOT place holds on rescues, please, do not submit an application unless you are READY to adopt MEOW.
-We require landlord approvals. if you rent, you should have written landlord approval before you apply to adopt a cat as we can't hold adoptions back or place hold on rescues.
