Meet adorable Cleo!
UPDATE 12/14/21
I took Cleo home as a foster on 11/14/21 and I am a single working adult living in an apartment with no other pets in the home, i can say Cleo is a very affectionate and social kitty! She is very much a lap cat (haven’t seen her pass up an open lap yet), she loves to greet her people at the door and seems to always have something to say. She finds that just after sunset is the perfect time for exercise and will do just that with some after dark zoomies. In the mornings, she’ll happily remind you that it’s time to get up by sitting on you until you do!
We think Cleo would be great in a home with children or adults only and probably best in a home as the single cat and potentially ok with dogs, especially small breeds whom she is not used to being around since last month. But, with some time, she likely will be fine. You can meet Cleo in the 92117 area code once an adoption application is submitted online and reviewed for approval.
Cleo will be attending our last adoption event of the year on 12/18- 12/19 we hope you can stop by and meet her! Or, you can submit an application anytime to schedule a meet and greet outside of events.
Foster Update: 9/15
Cleo was recently being fostered in a home with a young couple and a small breed dog. At first, she tolerated the little dog but Cleo says, "I'm a people pleaser so "eh" to the other creatures!" She would be great with kids. While in her foster home, she finally became attached to their small breed dog, but it took some time. During the time that she was at our cat adoption center, our volunteers gained her trust and she loves receiving TLC, being petted, and, most of all, being around humans. Because being with other kits makes her uneasy, we feel that she really should be the only cat in the home and, people pleaser that she is, this would make her feel happy and secure in her forever home. She would be fine with a small breed dog in the home, as well. (read on and you will be able to track her progress in becoming a friend with Daisy, the dog!)
Foster Update 7/22:
Cleo has been thriving! She continues to be the friendliest cat we've ever had! She approaches new people without hesitation and now we can proudly say she is a dog lover! we have had for almost 2 months and although the start was a bit rocky .... now she loves her foster sister Daisy! (14lb dog). She follows Daisy everywhere and they are always sleeping next to each other. At the beginning we were supervising them all the time but little by little we have been able to leave them alone and they keep each other company! When we would leave the house we kept them in different rooms and they would cry! Now that they love each other they are fine with us humans leaving them alone (when we go out to the store or run errands) we check on them through the pet camera and neither of them cry while in each other's company. Cleo has a lot of energy and is always ready to play. She also entertains herself by playing with her mouse toys! she loves to run around the house with her mouse toy in her mouth. In the morning Cleo likes to greet us by jumping on our bed and laying on top of us ( our chests or our backs) She looks for your hand and rubs her head on it. She is an affectionate and loving cat! It has been a true pleasure fostering her.
Foster Update 6/10:
We have had Cleo with us since 05/26/21. She is the friendliest cat we have ever encountered. ❤️ She is very vocal and likes to greet you with meows and she loves pets and scratches under her chin. She is very loving and will follow you everywhere! Unless she's in the middle of her nap, she will follow you wherever you go. She is the sweetest girl who loves being petted and doesn't mind being carried or kissed on the head. Cleo loves curling up next to ou or on you! She is also very food driven. She loves to look out the window and watch the birds. She is great with people! We had some friends over and she was very comfortable with strangers.
Cleo's relationship with the small family dog, Daisy, is a work in progress. Their first encounter did not go so well. Daisy was trying to sniff this "new creature" and Cleo was not happy about it so she reached out and scratched the dog's ear. Since that encounter, Daisy has kept her distance and is leary of Cleo. Occasionally, Cleo will hiss at Daisy so their foster parents are feeding them together to associate being in each other's presence with something good, like food. They are not left alone unsupervised.
Cleo's interaction with Daisy is similar to many cats who are introduced to another cat or dog for the first time. In Cleo's case, she may remember being alone in the streets trying to protect her kittens from other animals. Cleo may be happier in a home without a dog, but we are not sure. She is such a mild mannered cat that there is a good chance that she would either be friends with or tolerate a dog. If she goes into a home with a dog, it might be best if it is a small breed dog and supervision would be needed at first until they get along or as a trial to see if they will get along.
