Meet Rainbow Dash!
UPDATE 1-22-21: Here is what we have learned about Rainbow Dash based on what her current foster family has observed about her:
Rainbow Dash was shy and quiet for the first day. She is such a good dog and is mellow and very sweet. She learned to use the doggy door pretty quickly. She is currently fostered with dogs and will do best in a home with other dogs to help her shyness when meeting new people. Her primary foster had 4 cats and Rainbow Dash did not chase them, but she “eye balled them.” For this reason, she would be better in a home with no “pocket pets” (e.g. rabbits, Guinea pigs, birds). She would likely be okay with a savvy indoor kitty, who does not go outside and is supervised while in the home. But to be on the safe side, it might be best if she were to be adopted into a home that does not have kitties.
NOTES FROM HER FIRST FOSTER:
"Rainbow Dash is a sweet and loving girl who obviously had a rough start in life: she was quite withdrawn, timid and skittish when she arrived. From day one she enjoyed playing, lounging and sniffing in the backyard but was initially much more reserved indoors: she can be afraid of human hands, especially sudden and ample gestures, so adopters who are experienced with dogs and a household without small children are probably best. She has been consistently clean inside the house when given regular access to the back yard, and is quiet in a crate when in a room with 'her people' and a toy to keep her busy (including at night) but cries at first when you crate her alone in a room. We only fostered her for 10 days but, once she got out of her shell, she was really a joyous, funny and affectionate girl who loves to play plush/fabric toys (she completely ignored rubber toys). She is inquisitive, food motivated and -once she has warmed up to you- loves to cuddle on the sofa. She will initially need supervision when roaming around the house though, as she hasn't yet fully learned what qualifies as a doggie toy and what doesn't (she was attracted by shoes, accent pillows and towels). She got along well with our F senior chihuahua mix, and displayed no aggression or prey drive towards our 3 dog-friendly cats. She however stood her ground when one of the cats tried to eat from her bowl, so close supervision will probably be required at first during feeding time if there are other pets in the household. She tends to run away from you when called, as if expecting to be scolded by default; she even bolted out the front door once and will need a well-secure yard from which she can't escape. Walking on a leash is still a work in progress too, and requires a secure harness (a leash attached to a collar makes her 'freeze' in place). She is also fearful of brooms and similar utensils, and will go hide in a corner if you pick one. Rainbow Dash is a little gem in the rough, who really has the potential to become the perfect fun and loving companion for the special human who will take the time to make her feel safe, loved and to gently and patiently teach her the ropes."
ORIGINAL RESCUE STORY:
Rainbow Dash was rescued from the streets of Ensenada Mexico, along with two puppies that we have named Apple Jax and Pinkie Pie. We are 99% certain that Apple Jax is the biological son of Rainbow Dash. We believe that Pinkie Pie is her "adopted daughter" who just happened to be with her and AJ when they were rescued. She is obviously a really great mama dog to have kept her son and adoptive daughter safe while living on the streets!
We are still learning about her and will post more when we get information from her foster family. We do know she is good with other dogs. However, she has not been tested with cats, so we do not know how she might be around them.
Rainbow Dash is already spayed and ready to be adopted immediately. If you would like to adopt this amazing mama dog, please submit an online adoption application at www.arwob.org. Don't wait!
