Meet Apple Jack!   THIS IS A COURTESY LISTING

UPDATE 7-12-21:

"Apple Jack was adopted as a puppy back in January 2021 and unfortunately he needs to be relinquished back to ARWOB.  This means we need a foster or adopter ASAPHis previous adopter did some basic training, but additional training with a professional will likely be required.  They stated that they did not have time to work with a professional trainer to get Apple Jack to a point where he is comfortable with all types of people.  Apple Jack seems to have some fear issues when it comes to meeting new people.  He seems to have become protective of his family in certain scenarios.  They have indicated that Apple Jack gets along with most dogs and certain people, but has displayed some fear aggression in certain situations.  He barks, growls and acts aggressive towards most “strangers”, which included their neighbors and family that he has been around before.  However, he LOVES their young son and his friends and enjoys playing fetch and chase with them.  Therefore, Apple Jack will need an experienced dog owner, who is able to provide the professional training and socialization he needs to become more confident in meeting new people and being in different situations.

The description shown below has been provided by his current adoptive family.  This does not describe the dog we knew while under our care prior to adoption.  Although he may have now sadly developed a different personality, we are confident that if placed with the right family, his friendly and confident personality will blossom again.  We believe that with proper socialization, he will revert back to the personality he had when he was living with his foster family prior to adoption.

Information provided by the adoptive family:

"When Apple Jack encounters other dogs on walks he is generally curious or wants to play and will pull on the lease but not excessively hard. Sometimes, not usually, when Applejack encounters other dogs he will bark with an aggressive tone perhaps in response to the behavior of the other dog. In general, he gets along well with other dogs and enjoys their company. When he encounters other humans on a walk he will ignore them if they are across the street. If humans are within 20 feet he will bark and growl. Oddly when on hikes in public places or when we pick up our son’s elementary school and he with his family (pack) he is more comfortable passing by other humans and will ignore them.  He barks at strangers and when he is home alone.  He displays some separation anxiety. He is good with children in the 9-12 year old range as long as he doesn’t perceive them to be different.  We think he might do better in a home with another dog(s) in a more rural setting. I think he could be in a home with children maybe 8 y/o and above. He also might do well with a family that doesn’t get a lot of visitors.  He has made some progress, including becoming potty trained, learning basic commands such as sit, stay, down and shake.  He has also learned to walk well on a leash and is crate trained (he will often put himself to sleep at night).  He is pretty mellow for a pup, but does get the zoomies like any other young dog."

ORIGINAL RESCUE STORY:

Here is what Apple Jack's foster mom has to say about him:

"AJ is such an energetic, happy little guy. He is very social and loves to run around the yard and play with his furry friends. AJ can be stubborn at times when he decides he wants to do something, but this is only typical terrier personality. He loves to chase balls and be told he is a good boy! He loves positive affirmation. Everyone who meets AJ falls in love with him. He is a sweetheart and would be a great jogging buddy too! He is very agile and fit. He tends to be more vocal at times but is learning to minimize his vocalization. AJ would be such a great addition to any family who is willing to put the time in for training and can be the leader of the pack."

Apple Jack was found on the streets of Ensenada Mexico along with his mother Rainbow Dash and "adopted sister" Pinkie Pie.  We are 99% sure that Apple Jack is Rainbow Dash's biological son and that Pinkie Pie is her "adoptive daughter."  They were found together as a "family of three" when they were rescued and mama Rainbow did a great job keeping both pups safe while living on the street!

If you are interested in adopting Apple Jack, please submit an online adoption application at www.arwob.org. Don’t wait!
