I adopted Ana, changed her name to Abigail, on Feb 21, 2013. She had a bit of a rough start as a baby on the streets of Mexico. The parasites and poor nutrition contributed to some issues that needed to be addressed and created a bit of a challenge in the beginning. After trying some medical approaches I decided to try a more organic approach. Abigail was having a terrible time with her immune system which left her vulnerable to all kinds of parasites and Demodex mange. As you know this is challenging at best. Since the immune issues were the root of all her health challenges I decided to address that problem with full force. After doing some research and cross checking lists of foods good for building immunity and lists of food off limits to dogs I created a new diet for her. Along with her dry food, Kirkland brand, I mixed in ground kale, broccoli, carrots, whole blueberries and plain Greek yogurt. There were some others too but always she ate a mix of two or so of the above. I had taken her off the Ivermectin due to an out break of fleas about half way through her second course of treatment. After stopping the medication and incorporating her new diet it was about two months and she was a completely different dog. Her coat was stunning, the itching and chewing had stopped and she was a healthy and happy girl! She is now approximately 18 months and is 70lbs. All my dogs now get raw veggies in their dry food each morning and for treats too. They love them!! As for Abigail and me, we took a basic manners class which was wonderful for us both. She is very sweet, very loving and eager. Exercise and training are part of everyday and she is so worth it!! My bed is the only piece of furniture she is allowed on and she takes full advantage as you can see by her pictures. As she has grown I see Dutch and German Shepard (she has a very definitive black saddle) and possibly Belgian too. She is a show stopper when we are out in the community and we are stopped often so people can pay attention to her and ask questions about her. Thank you for saving this beautiful girl so she could come be a part of my family!!
