We received this absolutely AMAZING update about Kobe (fka Joey)!!
I just wanted to send you an email update about Joey, who we actually renamed him to Kobe. He is doing AWESOME! Andrew and I have been forever changed by this dog and we love him so much - he really fits in with us perfectly. I just took him into get his last round of puppy vaccinations at Banfield today and he did super well, they said he was a good patient. I could tell he was eager to get home when we were checking out. Our cat, Chica, has been warming up to him day by day and he is learning that Chica likes to be left alone most of the time. She doesn't really engage with him that much, so he doesn't pay too much attention to her and that's okay. She is happy that she has the human bed to herself and she still comes around to get pets and cuddles every day, no matter where Kobe is in the house. Kobe is in his crate every night and has done SUPER well, thank you for the crate training. He learned how to use the dog door and is becoming more independent with going out for potty breaks on the pet turf each day. I take him out every hour or couple of hours when I need to take a screen break from work. Kobe has a passion for soccer, like me. We have all played so much together and he's quite the defender. He loves rope toys and anything that squeaks as I'm sure you know. We honestly can't thank you and ARWOB enough for taking care of Kobe and letting us adopt him - he is literally the best part of my day. I just took this picture this AM, so you can see how much he's grown. If you want another update in a few months, I am happy to send one along. Thank you so much and God Bless!!
Kobe (fka Joey) was adopted from us in February. This is a most amazing "pupdate" from Kobe's adoptive family!
"We actually renamed Joey to Kobe (in honor of Kobe Bryant) soon after we brought him home. My fiance (Andrew) and I couldn't possibly be any happier with Kobe. He's an absolute dream of a dog for us. Here is our story (so far):
I started looking at rescue puppies and adult dogs in early January 2020 when I permanently started my new job working remotely from home. We had adopted a cat about 8 years ago and I felt that it was time we add another furry family member. I downloaded the PetFinder app because it was the best way to search ALL the rescue foundations in the area, including ARWOB.
I didn't really have any search criteria other than wanting a male dog who would be good with cats and good with kids would be a bonus, so my search began. I probably looked at 100s, 1000s of dogs and puppies over weeks of time. I didn't feel that instant connection or gut feeling until I saw Joey (Kobe) on Super Bowl Sunday. Immediately, I showed Andrew the pictures of him and said to him "This is going to be our dog, I just know it". I emailed ARWOB, completed the application, and awaited the call to see if we could set-up a day/time to meet Joey (Kobe) which came the following Saturday.
The next day we went to Petsmart to meet the little guy and as soon as I laid my eyes on him, I knew it was meant to be. He was so calm, so sweet, and perfect in every way. Andrew was still a little apprehensive at this point as he'd never had a dog before, but I could see his mind change as soon as Joey (Kobe) gave him a wet kiss on the face. The hardest part of the adoption process was leaving that Sunday without him.
A few days later, once we got the full approval from ARWOB to adopt Joey (Kobe), we went back to Petsmart and this time didn't leave without our boy. I don't think he has stopped wagging his tail since. We call him Mr. Wiggle Butt because he's always happy and he just loves everybody and everything. He loves to play fetch with the tennis ball and frisbee and is a frequent visitor to OB Dog Beach, Fiesta Island, and our local parks in PB. He is a huge cuddle bug and prefers to sleep on his back with all of his limbs straight up in the air. We were anticipating him to weigh 60-80 lbs, but he's just about 50 lbs and has really filled out.
I honestly have no idea what we used to do without having a dog, our lives have so much more meaning now that we have him. If it wasn't for Kobe, I don't know if we would have made it through this pandemic - he made being home in quarantine so easy, I actually enjoyed it every single day.
He is seriously the best dog we could have ever asked for. Our family is truly blessed to have him in our life. I couldn't be more thankful to ARWOB for rescuing him and bringing him to us - I think it was destiny."
