We received a "pupdate" about Lola, who was adopted in March 2021. Lola was a behavioral case and we are so happy that she has found the right family, who is working with her and making great progress. Here is what her adoptive family has to say:
"Lola is doing great. She has not grown any bigger. She is the right size. We have not worked with a trainer. At $195/$120 an hour, we wanted to try ourselves first. We have a lot of dog experience. My husband is a retired K9 deputy. She seems to get better every day. The leash aggression towards other dogs is the biggest thing we are working on. We feel some things are her age. When she gets excited it creates a ripple effect of bad behavior. We like that she barks at people, especially when they come to the door, but she has not learned to stop barking when we tell her to. Once she alerts us, she needs to stop barking. We are working on that, too. Which has been getting better. She has the good German shepherd bark and that is just too loud for indoors. (I started this email right after I received your email. since then, her alerting bark has gotten shorter/better.) We are very happy with Lola. We can see why others may not have been able to train her. But, she wants to please so she is very trainable. It's just an every day, every hour thing. In a year, it won't be. We like to train our dogs to be able to walk off leash. And I think that will take 2 years. She needs to be calmer and be able to focus on just us. Lola really wants to be a lap dog. She loves it when my one son carries her. She rests her head on his shoulder and she totally relaxes. She is really a sweet dog that just wants to cuddle. We do see improvement everyday. She's just a toddler that needs constant reminders. We are very happy we found her!"
