Scheduled Adoption Events

We are hoping to find a foster, an adopter, or someone who would like to foster with intent to adopt Rusty by 3/20 so we don't have to send him back to his rescuer in Baja. 

Looking to adopt a goofball? Well, you've found him! Rusty is an adorable, medium sized, Baja mutt who was rescued off the streets of Ensenada, Mexico as a stray. We don't know his breed but if you like the “pointer” look, Rusty’s your guy. 

What we do know is he’s full grown at 32 to 35 pounds. Rusty is such a love bug. He would be an amazing companion, even for a first-time dog owner. He’s a young adult in the 1- to 2-year range, so he’s not a puppy but he can play like a crazy puppy and is great with all breeds/ages/sizes of dogs. 

Rusty is crate trained and does well in the car. He is house trained when he has access to the yard. He loves to chew, but if you have toys and Benebones around, he will chew appropriately. He also loves to romp around with other doggos or just chill out in a bed or outside in the sun. Rusty likes to grab toys and have dogs chase him around to play keep away. He is not vocal but when he is in the yard and people walk by too close, he will tell you about it with his mighty bark. 

Because he was a stray, Rusty does have some quirks that he likely gained from being shooshed away by people in the street. He can be shy or intimidated at first when meeting people, but a little baby talk or soft approach and food or toys and you will quickly win him over. Rusty should not be let off leash until you have completed dog training classes with him. And he should not be chased; instead, let him come to you. It’s also important that you have a secured fence to keep him safe. 

He would be a great dog for children, but only children who have lived with and learned about dogs. This is due to his initial intimidation around people he doesn’t know. Also, because he is still a bit of a puppy, and he just doesn't know yet that he can't treat people the same way he does dogs.
