Lucy 2 1/2 year Lab/Shep mix who was found by a good sam abandoned on a cabin porch in Tennessee. It broke his heart to just leave her there, so as he was on his way back to San Diego, CA, he decided to take her with him. Lucy was very pregnant when he found her, so immediately when he returned to San Diego, the rescuers scheduled an appointment to have her spayed. However, she delivered the puppies 3 days before, since then all babies have found a home and now its mom's turn!
Lucy was a typical rescue, malnourished and in need of a lot or R & R which her foster family has provided. Now today she looks magnificent!
She is a PERFECT size! She would do best in a home with a yard as she has know 'freedom' for so long especially being rescued from the streets, we are curious to know if she would do well in an apt. setting. Lucy is a very sweet, loving, and SUBMISSIVE dog. She is a soft-spoken, sits for treats, and is learning more commands since she knew none as a porch/outdoor dog. She would probably do best in a home with a large family as she LOVES children and wants to constantly be around people, maybe a home who has someone who works from home or is retired? She has a GORGEOUS deep black soft coat.
When you are petting her, she will nudge your hand yearning for more if you stop. She has been exposed to children and her rescuers say she is very gentle with them. In fact, she's very tolerant of them even if they handle her roughly. She is also good around other dogs, however, she has not been tested around cats. Her foster family doesn't believe she will do well around them as she has several times hunted squirrels in the back yard (probably the only way she knew how to survive at one point while on the streets). She will bark at strangers (that are passing very near the house, for instance) but once she knows they are welcome all she wants is pets and belly rubs. She is a quiet dog and very docile. She loves people, kids and friendly dogs. She loves food. She will eat ANYTHING i.e. fruit, vegetables, meat, if you put in her bowl she will eat it. Because she is so food motivated, we think that Lucy will learn very quickly. She is house trained (will go pee on command) and walks well on the leash.
Lucy will require an adopter who will be able to spend several days at home with her after adoption to introduce her into new settings, its hard when a street dog had a hard life and then bonds to a family and is so grateful for what they have done for her that we wouldn't be surprise she would be very nervous and scared her first days with the adoptive parents, she is a docile girl who will need someone to reassure her she is in great hands.
If you think you can offer her a safe and loving home please fill our adoption application and will call to set up a play date with this perfect gentle girl.
