Meet Magy!

First, Magy is THE BEST DOG!!
Second, we don't know what breed she is, so if you are looking for a dog that looks like Magy, keep on reading :)
Magy was initially rescued from the Tijuana/San Diego border back in 2020 when a good sam who is homeless and has his little 'hut' built by the border fence helps stray dogs that he encounters in the area by offering them water and food making sure they are ok. We originally found out about this sir by a border patrol seeking help with some pups they encountered on the USA side and realized the adult dogs. ARWOB was able to help all those who were social and friendly towards humans to place for adoption and sterilized and vaccianted those dogs who had no interest in humans being the community dogs in the TJ side of the border.

Magy stayed in foster care for a couple of months and then adopted by a senior who was really looking for companion to have and take on walks. She was in her early 60s and Magy and she hit it off. Magy was adopted but sadly in the first 2 years of having Magy the owner fell ill, making her home bound and therefore also magy was home all the time. Not socialized around people and other dogs, just cut off from the world. It became such that Magy became protective of her owner making it impossible for people to come over to the home. Her owner sadly had to be taken to the hospital and she contacted a dog trainer to help and remove Magy from the home. Magy had been left home alone for almost 2 weeks while neighbors would feed, she dependent on using the doggy door to go outside into the yard to go potty. She was now alone Not only did she loose the human she knew and was bonded to but now she wa alone. The trainer went to assess the situation and was able to remove Magy from the home. Taking her home on a board and train. A whole year Magy stayed with the trainer per owner request. She did not need to stay under his care but Magy's owner health was not stable and requested and paid for him to help. After a year the owner went back home and Magy was returned to the owner. Unfortunately, her health detereorated again after 6 months at home and had to be taken to the hospital again. Magy back to the trainer who knew her. Sadly, ARWOB was unware all this was taking place in the past 2 years. The owner finally reached out via email in May of 2024 asking us for help to relinquish Magy. From the story we had no idea what we were dealing with and the trainer was unfortunately not very helpful in giving information. We made arrangements to meet the trainer once the owner signed relinquishment paperwork and when we met the trainer he said "I don't know how Magy will show, she is likely going to be shy and insecure not wanting to do anything with you" the minute she came out of the kennel she was being transported in she wagged her tail to us and was so friendly and happy to receive pets. We don't know if she recognized us or the truck but the trainer was surprised and from there, we took her leash and hoped into the truck.

We took Magy to casa de ARWOB to assess the situation, see how she was going to be around dogs and a new environment. Can we say, we can't remember the last time we ever said 'THANK GOD THEY RETURN HER' because this girl is beyong amazing. Her story may give some reader hesitation to inquire about her and we recommend you inquire about our foster to adopt 1-2 week trials before you adopt this beautiful soul if you like but in the 3 weeks under our care she has been nothing but amazing with all. Disclosure, we never received a write up from the trainer who cared for her, we asked multiple times before meeting and after. Never gave us an assesment of what she had learned or not while under his care. Not much if at all which says a lot especially after having her under his care for more than a year. It is sad all this time she could have been secured by us and had found a family a long time ago instead of being borded in limbo and are proud of her owner for finally realizing that instability was not fair for Mags.

Here is a little about Magy today:
Magy has always been house trained, potty trained and crate trained. We don't crate her much but make sure to continue crating her in case her new forever family decides to do training and also because it helps when dogs go into a transition from one dog to another or any emergencies that dogs need to be kenneled.

She doesn't seem to play with toys. She can be found munching on some denta stiks and edible items like bully sticks.

She is GREAT with dogs, males, females and pups. She can be tolerant of the licky face pups, but if they are out of control she will growl at them to knock it off. They better listen!
She CAN and will try to hump some dogs or all dogs at one point or another, if you keep an eye out and see it we just make sure to tell her to knock it off and not do it, some dogs are fine with it but stranger first time meeting dogs may not and lets face it its bad manners, so as long as her new family is able to see when she is planning on humping a dog and tell her to not do it, she won't ...
Her current BFFs at casa de ARWOB are Harry, Scout and Cici. By the way, anyone looking to adopt another GOOD/GREAT DOG please ask about Harry, he is our underdog and the bestest DOG!

Magy energy level at home is typically a 2-3 level just calm, chill, collected. Unless she thinks there is intruders in the yard in the form of skunks or other critters, you WILL know she will make sure to tell you. She will stop alerting you if you tell her to stop. Be careful, when opening the door to the yard that its free of critters, we don't want anyone getting hurt. Once there was a family of sunks walking ny the fence and she darted out but she stopped when we told her MAGGY NO! at casa de ARWOB we don't go after ANY critters. thank you very much.

Was not sure how she would do with cats, but she has been great, she walks aroudn the house around them and they enter the dog room. She is very respectful of the felines. We don't know aboout OUTSIDE cats, could be different than indoor family cats.

She is NOT a barker at all, she probably could alert but have not seen her do so.
We had expected a big sheder but is not out of control at all, just normal shepherd shedding, very surprised as to how little she sheds to what we had expected with her coat.

She does great on leash walks and car rides.

The ONLY negative we have seen for Magy is her panting. She pants when things are happening like in the car or getting ready to go out or sometimes in the house she seems afraid or unease like something is coming or is happening but there is nothing going. Perhaps some past trauma we don't know.

She is great at dog parks and plays along with dogs. But do know this. She can go from an easy going sweet senior dog who is chilled to a young puppy who was just released and ready to RUN! This girl can run FAST and keep up with all the young ones. She can play nice and sometimes she can play rough, it depends on the dogs. Harry and her play the best and love to chase each other and rought play and cuddle together in the dog bed. She does great with big or small dogs, no matter. But be ready for this girl to go on nice 1-3 mile walks no problem or run around dog parks. She really enjoys outtings.
