Meet Evie!

Evie was adopted from ARWOB in November 2022 when she was about 7 months old.  She had a rough start in life, so we were hoping her new home would be a good fit for her.  She was originally rescued by ARWOB from a high kill shelter in San Bernardino when she was only about a month old, along with her 5 siblings and her mama.

Unfortunately, her adoptive family recently reached out to ARWOB to see if we could help them rehome Evie.  They feel she would be a much happier kitty if she were to find a home that is more quiet and calm.  She gets along great with their other cat, but she is extremely anxious around the stay-at-home dad and their 3 year old toddler.  Both the dad and toddler are boisterous and Evie isn’t comfortable with loud noises or chaotic movements.  She will often run and hide when she is startled.  The mother works outside the home and has offered some insight into Evie’s behavior:

"Evie is a delightful cat but she’s unhappy in our household more often than not. We've had her for just over a year and she’s continued to be skittish and easily spooked, lately she's been hiding most of the day whenever my husband and toddler are home. She’s wonderful with me, other adult visitors, and our second cat, but she startles easily and gets quite anxious by sudden movements or loud sounds (which happen frequently with a 3 year old toddler in the house). We had hoped in time she’d adjust to the household. When my old son is quiet and calm she will approach him, even sit with him, but more often than not she hides/runs from him. She also plays a bit too rough for a small child, as she has a habit of biting, kicking, and scratching when nervous or over excited.

For her sake I think she’d be happier in a different home, with someone who knows how to manage / accommodate a sensitive cat. She’s always been good with adult humans and absolutely adores our other cat. I would recommend she be placed in a home with a cat-buddy if possible. She happily lives with another cat and they nap together sometimes, chase each other, and frequently play-fight. Sometimes she instigates the play-fighting, sometimes it's the other cat. They seem to enjoy each other's company but are not bonded. (Side note, I've had bonded cats that are inseparable, that is not the case here, these two are just friendly roommates.)"

We believe that Evie would make a wonderful companion in a home that is calm and more relaxed.  She enjoys the company of other feline companions.  She may be the perfect kitty for a senior or a home without small children.  She is a beautiful little lady, with a gorgeous coat and pretty eyes.  Just take a look at her photos and videos!  She is quite the exquisite girl.  If you are interested in fostering or adopting Evie, please fill out an online application today!  She would love to meet you.
