Meet Alba!

Alba is a big dog packaged in a tiny body! She is very athletic, has a lot of energy, and would be a great exercise partner.  She is quite the tomboy and not afraid to get her paws wet in mud or water! She loves catching frisbees and would likely enjoy agility-obstacle courses. Alba is a social butterfly, loves meeting new people, and is super affectionate and cuddly.

Alba is BFFs with all the dogs and cats at her foster home. She is also great with children, and we expect she would be a great family dog and enjoy playing and snuggling with kids.

Although she loves her buddies at her foster home, Alba gets reactive on walks when she sees other dogs. She bark bark barks to let the other dog know she is big and mighty even though she is a tiny 8 lbs. She also has a tendency to tug on the leash and not follow the human's lead. Alba needs an adopter who will enroll her in sessions with a certified dog trainer to master basic obedience commands, and has the patience and consistency to continue her training with her leash-reactivity struggles on walks. Living in a foster home with multiple dogs and cats has not given Alba the opportunity to learn these skills. At home, she does not bark if someone is at the door but will bark to let you know she has had enough of yard-time or if she hears noises coming from the neighbor's house. She is house and crate trained, but it would be good to refresh her crate training when she moves into her forever home.

Please submit an application at arwob.org if you are interested in either adopting or fostering this tiny social butterfly with a big personality!

Notes from the progress with training:

Alba was assessed by a local San Diego dog behaviorist on 12/20. He gave Alba’s foster mom assignments to work on with her. Alba also had a dog trainer assessment on 1/9 and she passed her assessment test. She is now enrolled in a group training class with other dogs that meets once a week starting 1/23 and will run through 2/27. Alba’s foster mom is doing all she can to expose her to other dogs while taking her on walks. They have been attending a monthly “pack walk” with another great dog trainer and other dog owners. We believe Alba is bound to succeed!
