Meet Pebbles!

UPDATE 9-15-21 :  Here is the current update about Pebbles from her foster mom.  Note:  Pebbles and her foster met with our trainer for a behavior assessment and she is doing really well:

"Pebbles has continued to get socialized with the resident dog and has met many, many dogs of all shapes, sizes, and ages during her time with her foster. She is a very active and attentive dog who would love to meet a family who will take her on lots of walks, runs, bike rides, and hikes when she's old enough.  Pebbles is doing so well with her crate training. She happily sleeps in her crate all night long and is so excited to see her foster parents when she wakes up. During the day, she is getting used to being crated if her foster parents need to run errands and she prefers to be crated in the living room with the TV on so she doesn't feel so alone. Pebbles only protests the crate for a short time, 5 - 10 minutes max and then is able to fall asleep and relax until her foster parents return home.  Pebbles is food and squeaker toy motivated, so has continued to be easy to train. Pebbles isn't the type of dog who will dart or run off if she see's an open door because she ultimately wants to be with her family. She loves to sleep in the sunshine and be outside, but also cuddles up in a dog bed inside just fine.  Pebbles and I did see a trainer about her frustration bursts that turn into aggression and we haven't had any outbursts since then, so the tips that I got worked really well. She's been doing super well with everything else we've been working on so far.”

Update 9-1-21 :  Here is latest update from Pebbles’ foster mom.  Pebbles is scheduled for her assessment with ARWOB’s professional dog trainer on September 4th:

“Clicker training is going really well.  She is 100% trained on sit and about 50% on a come command (on leash or running in between us) in the yard. She has the will to please and loves praises, so she's always willing to do what it takes to get a treat or a "good girl". She's pretty sensitive too, so we are being careful with discipline and making sure it's a quick correction with a positive reinforcement immediately after (like if she puts my shoe in her mouth, we say no and pass her a toy and say good girl).  She's definitely not happy about being left in the crate, but we're not giving up and she's getting used to it. She does fine at night, sleeps through the whole night minus the first 2-5 minutes to settle down. We feed her in the crate (door open) and when she's napping, we put her in the crate and close the door and she has no idea that she's "locked in". I've noticed that she likes to be around someone or my dog Kobe at all times, so we need to work on her independence and confidence with being solo more.  Kobe actually really likes having her around - he tells her when it's time to rest and when it's time to play and when play gets too rough, he tells her off (usually with his body or paws). Our cat is becoming more used to Pebbles and their encounters have been fine too.  Since being with us, she's played with 3 larger dogs (all neighborhood dogs that I know and trust), a 6 month old Aussie puppy that we've known for ~2 months, and 2 <20 lbs maltese & westies that are our neighbors, and Kobe every day. We haven't seen any issues with playing whatsoever, but definitely want to hear what the trainer thinks and if there is anything more we can do. We do ~4 walks a day, 2 longer ones and 2 shorter ones with potty breaks mixed in between everything.” 

Pebbles can meet potential adopters RIGHT AWAY.  If all goes well with her meet and greet, she can potentially go home that SAME DAY.  However, she will be sterilized in the 92104 area of San Diego on Monday, October 4, 2021.  The spay surgery is already included in her adoption fee.  This means priority will given to local area applicants.  This will ensure they are able to take Molly to the pre-scheduled surgery appointment and then pick her up at the end of the day after surgery.  Please do NOT submit an application if you do not live in the San Diego area.  If you would like to adopt and live outside of San Diego area, you are welcome to wait until her sterilization surgery has been completed to see if she is still available at that time (please note that we do not place holds on any of our rescues).

ORIGINAL RESCUE STORY :

Pebbles was rescued from the streets of Tijuana, Mexico. She is likely mostly a Pitbull, but we are not sure if she is American Pitbull or “Staffy" with some other Baja blend mixes (like Terrier, Lab and likely even Chihuahua! ha!)  She was found roaming the streets on her own, the typical story of pups from Baja. We do not have any information about her parents or her history. But at only 2 months of age, she doesn’t likely have much history, aside from her being a typical energetic, outgoing puppy.   Because of her potential Pitbull breed, it’s important her adopter is going to have time to keep socializing her with dogs and people. Most importantly, they will need to be able to have a Pitbull mix who will likely grow to be in the 40-60 pound range. Like all Baja mutts, they typically stay in the smaller size range.  Pebbles reminds us of some of our past rescues, who end up having a Pitbull face, but with smaller of paws and smaller bodies, ending up in the 40-50 pound range when full grown. 

Pebbles has had 2 sets of vaccines and adoptive families will need to continue with their family veterinarian to continue the puppy vaccine series.  Pebbles is approximately 8 pounds and approximately 2 months old, so we believe she will likely be in the 40-60 pound range when full grown.  PLEASE only apply to adopt if you understand large breeds and have approval from your landlord for the size and breed. This puppy is adorable both physically and behaviorally. She is great with dogs, cats, and kids. She will need typical dog training and house training and she currently is being crate trained.
