Meet Mateo!
UPDATE 2-6-21 : This is what Mateo's foster mom has to say about him:
"Mateo is a little spunky ball of energy. He is very adventurous and never hesitates to try something new. Mateo is extremely adorable but like so many terriers, he can be a terror at times. He is energetic, needy and can be jealous of his fellow canine friends in the home. Mateo is a very loyal companion who likes to stick close to his family. He follows you around everywhere you go. He can be very vocal at times when he is worried that you will leave. He is also a climber. His climbing skills are impressive. Mateo will be a loyal loving addition to any family that is active and can provide lots of exercise for Mateo. Training would be very helpful for Mateo also."
ORIGINAL RESCUE STORY :
Mateo was rescued from the Ensenada Mexico landfill. Just like with many strays that typically roam the landfill searching for food, Mateo was spotted by a worker while he was running around. The worker noticed that he seemed to be in trouble because Mateo was drooling a lot. He took the little guy to a local rescue, who fostered him and realized he had a burn on his tongue. This may be why he had difficulty eating the first day and likely the reason why he was drooling when rescued by the worker. Mateo has healed up completely and is a very happy, active, and typical terrier puppy. He loves to be in someone’s arms and does not like being left alone. He is great with other dogs, cats, and children.
This little guy will likely grow to be 25 pounds when full grown. Just like with all young pups, he will need structure and guidance so that he does not develop bad manners (i.e. barking, whining, etc.). He will need proper puppy training, especially since he is very young. Therefore, we are looking for an adopter who is willing to socialize Mateo and train him to be a well behaved family member. He is currently crate trained, but will need to be house trained.
Because of COVID-19, sterilization appointments have been difficult to schedule. Mateo will all be sterilized in the 92104 North Park area of San Diego on Friday, February 26, 2021.
This means that he can only be adopted to local families in the San Diego area to ensure they are able to take him to the pre-scheduled surgery appointment, and then pick him up at the end of the day after surgery. Therefore, please do NOT submit an application if you are not local to San Diego and able to attend the appointments shown above. If you would like to adopt and live outside of San Diego area, you are welcome to wait until her sterilization surgery has been completed to see if he is still available (please note that we do not place holds on any of our rescues).
If you would like to adopt this adorable little guy, please submit an application online at arwob.org
