|
Chip is an adorable small breed Baja mutt. What he is, nobody really knows! He has a face of a Dachshund, the body of a Whippet, but probably is a shepherd/Chihuahua mix. He looks very unique and oh so handsome, with a long body, long legs, and already fully grown.
Chip and Dale were rescued from the streets of Ensenada Mexico in mid-October. There were reports of a couple of new stray dogs, who arrived in the neighborhood and Chip and Dale were part of this new crew. Chip was making himself warm sleeping in an old sofa cushion and he was terrified when his rescuer approached him. He was so scared, he peed himself when picked up. It took a few days for him to trust his rescuer, but after a couple of days he came around and is very appreciative of his daily meals and human pets.
Chip is now in San Diego and has reverted to his shyness, but within a day he was doing much better and started to trust his new foster. It is now time for Chip to learn to walk on a leash and to go out to experience new places, as he is not used to what it’s like to be a family dog.
Chip does fantastic around other dogs and cats, with a gentle submissive, yet playful side. He should be fine with most children, depending on their personalities, as quick and loud movements may scare him. Chip may do well with children once he is more exposed to the things that a family dog normally has in their life. For now he is a total gentle sweetheart and his ideal home would be one with another dog and an experienced adopter, who can help him learn the ropes. Chip is crate trained and not a big barker. He is already full grown and likely 1-2 years old.
Because of COVID-19, sterilization appointments have been difficult to schedule. Chip will be sterilized in the 92104 North Park area of San Diego on Monday, 12/7/2020.
This means he can only be adopted to local families in the San Diego area to ensure they are able to take him to the pre-scheduled surgery appointment, and then pick him up at the end of the day after surgery. Therefore, please do NOT submit an application if you are not local to San Diego and able to attend the appointment shown above. If you would like to adopt and live outside of San Diego area, you are welcome to wait until his sterilization surgery has been completed to see if he is still available at that time.
If you would like to meet and possibly adopt this handsome boy, please complete an online adoption application at www.arwob.org. He may be very shy during his “meet and greet with potential families, but we are confident he will come around and gain confidence.
