Meet Neo!

UPDATE 10/27/20:

Neo is absolutely wonderful! He would be an excellent choice for a first time dog owner or an experienced dog owner.  He is the perfect medium-sized Lab mix at 37 pounds and although he is easy going and calm, he is always up for walks!  If you check out his video, you will see he has excellent bones!  He can jump and go up and down stairs with no problem.  He is a slow eater, so he goes through stages of gaining and loosing weight, but he always has a great appetite at night.  Neo is good with cats and dogs, although he has his “tolerance level” with the younger puppy crowd.  He will tolerate puppies coming by to say hello the first time, but if they are out of control and “licky in your face,” he will have enough of them and “tell them off.”  LOL!  Neo (aka Nene) had a polyp removed from his rectum early in September, which was benign and his blood work, etc. is great! He also has great dental health.  He is house trained and crate trained, so if you are looking for a great dog to add to your family, you should meet this sweet old soul asap!   Ask us about our foster-to-adopt trial trail for this handsome man!

Update 10/1/20
:  We received this update from Neo's foster family:

Neo is overall doing well this week.  He is now perfectly fine to go potty on leash. He is very friendly to people and dogs, especially in the dog park (he loves it). He loves to take naps indoors and loves to run when outside.  He barely talks when I'm home. I think he is getting slightly better at separation anxiety. I put him in the crate when I left home, and he could eventually calm down. He seems to respond to 'Come' and he would never enter a room if I refused.

Original rescue story:

Neo (aka Nene) was rescued abandoned with a family in Tijuana when he was just a pup. The family mentioned from the beginning he was very shy, so they knew he had a bad start in life with whomever owned him before they tossed him over their yard fence as a pup/teen.

The family decided to keep him, but sadly their dog was not fond of him and so they re-homed him to a sister of theirs who had him for these years. BUT he was just a patio dog, which means he never went out and about or left the house or that little area where he lived. He only knew the female owner and the occasional visitors of the home which were not many.

The owner moved and couldn't take Nene (aka Neo) with her and was planning on taking him to the Tijuana dog pound, but contacted ARWOB for help first.

We met Neo and couldn't say no. He is a shy/easy going/reluctant/insecure, sweet boy who has been an easy dog to foster since he arrived at ARWOB.

Aside from the story we have above about his 'none existent lifesytle', we also know he got along with the other dogs in the home BUT lately, in the past year or so, he would get into dog 'scuffles/fights' with the other dogs in the home, although they were separated (some used the back yard, some the front patio, and some the courtyard - yes, a bit of a situation in that home, sadly). We don't know if it's the stress of his life, the fact that he has aged, or he just didn't get along with the other dogs, but at this time we would imagine he would do best as the only dog in the home and monitor while introducing with other dogs. We can say he is not one dog to bark, lunge or try to attack dogs, especially when on the leash or first introduced as he has been doing well with us. For future adopters' knowledge, they should know he may do best as a family dog vs a dog park/dog beach dog.

Neo may be a young senior, but he looks amazing! He also has a bit of a frosted face, but has no mobility issues, is an 'old man soul' personality and is gentle/insecure, but quickly trusts his human. He is house trained and crate trained. Currently, he lives in a home with cats and seems indifferent to them, BUT he is NEVER allowed unsupervised around them or left home alone; if so, he stays in his crate which he does well.

Neo can occasionally howl or 'say things' ..not sure if it's his insecurity talking because he is in a new home; the previous owners reported he was not a barker, but could vocalize if he heard some noises but they never heard him howl, so we think its a new thing because of the major changes in his life that have occurred for him. He does well during car rides, and is gentle and easy on leash walks.

We would love to find an adopter or foster family for this fantastic, sweet, old man who is waiting to finally enjoy life and a family who can baby him...something he didn't receive before.

To adopt or foster-to-adopt this handsome fella, please submit the adoption application online at arwob.org

The meet and greet will be scheduled in the 92117 area and we are accepting applications now. Please submit online at arwob.org
