We think Nellie is a Lab/Collie/Pit mix, as she is a teenager at approximately 9 months of age and is 40 pounds. She will likely reach 45-50 pounds when full grown.
UPDATE 5/20/20 :
Here is the update we have received from her foster family:
“Nelli is a sweetheart. She is fun, loving, and full of energy. She needs a home where she will receive a lot of attention and will get some good walks in each day. She is good with kids and other dogs. Don’t know about cats as she hasn’t been around any since she was with me. She is friendly but a little timid when first meeting someone. It takes her a few times to go up to and let a stranger pet her... but she shies at quick movements. Once she is comfortable... she is good.
She is not a barker!! She roams my yard that overlooks a hiking trail where many people and dogs go by. She is interested... but she does not bark! Yay!!
We walk 6-7 miles a day and she’s does great. She is curious about smells and tries to chase lizards, squirrels, birds, anything that moves but she never really pulls hard and just a quick jerk on the leash and she is back. She is great on sidewalks, much more distracted on trails but still very good. A wide trail is best for her because a on a single track she wants to lead but constantly stops because I think she is a little timid ..yet she will not walk behind me .
She is house broken and crate trained. However, she needs to be lured into the crate and always need something to chew on in the crate. Once in...sometimes she whines and yips but only for a couple of minutes . Then she is good all night. She is also good 3 - 6 hours in the day with a break in the middle. I haven’t tried longer.
She loves to play. She is great at fetching and loves her squeaky toys... although they don’t last too long. She is a chewer. She needs to have multiple options of chew toys at all times. Don’t leave shoes, sandals, slippers, iPads with covers, remote controls or anything plastic that is not a toy out...or it will be chewed. She is stealth and she is fast!!
She will make the right family an incredible life long friend!!”
Nellie was rescued from the streets of Tijuana in February of 2020 by a good sam who was taking care of her in her home while she figured things out. She realized she needed help placing her and contacted ARWOB. Nellie lives with other dogs and has a great personality towards dogs. She also lives with 3 human children whom she loves. She is not crate or house trained, so will need an adopter who can teach her the ropes of a life as part of a family.
TO ADOPT OR FOSTER TO ADOPT Nellie, submit a dog adoption application and mention on the comments if you'd like to foster her first. The ideal candidates have a home with a yard or excellent way to meet her energy needs and experience with dog training... someone who will be a leader.
