Tangy (pronounced “Tangee” – short for Tangerine) – is a fun, spunky and active 3 ½ year old shepherd / labrador mix. Short light tan coat, slim built with long legs and weighs about 35 lbs.
Great Qualities: Tangy loves to play fetch with any type of ball and when she jumps for the catch it seems like she flies! Loves to run and play, explores new things with zest and never wanders too far. Tangy would be a great agility dog with the right training. She does well at parks and beaches. She is a great companion and loves attention from her people.
History: We rescued Tangy as an 8 week old puppy 3/1 years ago and brought her home as a companion to our 6 month old puppy Daisy, a German Shepherd/ Labrador mix. Tangy was always very possessive with toys and food. We had a larger home and yard and dealt with the situation. In moving to San Diego 9 months ago, we are now in a smaller home and the two are together more. We hired a trainer to help us, and although she was able to calm Tangy down a bit with positive activities and reinforcement, Tangy is still too possessive and has been aggressive with Daisy when it comes to toys and food. She loves her home, people and stuff and just doesn’t want to share with other pets inside her home.
Temperament: She does well with adults and older kids - our daughter was 6 when we brought Tangy home. She sleeps in her bed and is also crate trained - although we have not used it since we moved. She loves to ride in the car and is great at travelling – has made trips to AZ and Texas mostly sleeping and taking in the sites. Her appetite is normal, eating between 1 – 2 cups of food per day. She loves to sleep in the same room as her people, she has several beds throughout our home so she can keep her eye on us. She knows her name, comes when called and knows when to go to her bed when told. She goes to the door when she has to potty and will go anywhere outside when she is told to “go potty.”
We want the best for Tangy and love her very much – that is why we have tried these last 3 ½ years to deal with the situation. It is evident that both dogs are miserable by keeping them together. Tangy needs a loving home as the only pet. She is shy of animals and strangers she doesn’t know, but makes friends with time. She is a great companion, learns quickly and loves to play.
