This beautiful young girl who is just turning 10 months old and still, technically considered a kitten,
has quite a story to tell.
One of our rescuers, with the help of other volunteers, had put out a number of cage traps with food inside in order to try to entice and trap a dog who had gotten out. of a yard and was missing. This story had a happy ending, but good....the dog was rescued in one of the cages and, to our surprise, this little felline was also trapped in another cage. Her rescuer took her home and kept her through the weekend until she could take her to the vet. During those first several days, she realized that this kitty was not feral.....she was scared, but responded to attention with purrs. She was not microchipped and appeared to have been a stray. After a check up, vaccines, and spaying, she was ready to be socialized even more and to find a home of her own. No one had posted anything about a missing cat which resembled her description and we feel that she had been on her own for some time.
She is such a pretty girl, and is small with gorgeous emerald eyes and a longer medium hair coat. Her coat is a little brown in some areas and that is because she was out in the elements and prolonged sun exposure can "bleach" out coats temporarily. She is really a smart kitty and it is truly a miracle that she was able to survive on her own in an area where there are canyons filled with coyotes. We don't know how long she was out on her own.....certainly for some time, but she must have been around humans at some time because she adjusts so well to them once she gets to know you a little bit through an introduction.
She is currently in our cat adoption center located in the PetSmart in Clairemont and is continuing to make progress. She still shy, but absolutely LOVES to be put on your lap and will stay there enjoying being pettied and that purr machine of hers is going full throttle! (See video) The fact that she loves this kind of attention is what makes us realize that she will make a great pet! She can a llittle startled at first if someone approaches her quickly, but that is probably what was part her survival skills..she had to be alert to all that was going on around her when she was trying to survive alone. It only takes a short time..letting her smell your hand, etc. and she realizes that you are a friend and she can be comfortable. Our volunteers are continung to work with her and give her lots of TLC and she is adjusting SO well.
If you are interested in adopting this sweet little girl (she is small and looks a bit larger with that beautiful coat of hers), please fill out an adoption application online. We think that she would be happy as the only cat in the family if she is not alone for most of the day, every day, but she would also probably be fine with another calm, gentle cat who she could bond with.
Nothing would make her happier than to find the forever family of her dreams where she will never have to worry about trying to find food, water, and avoiding predators ever again!
If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE IN THE MILITARY please fill out a short questionnaire in addition to the adoption application.
