Update as of 11/30/16

Sadie's foster mom has this to say about her:

"Sadie has been with us since late May of this year.  She was found by a wonderful border patrol agent near the border after she had been hit by a car and left for dead. Both of Sadie’s knees had been broken as well as both hips and part of her back. According to the surgeon, she must have survived in that state for at least a couple of weeks based his findings in her X-rays upon arrival at his office.

A lesser dog would not have survived.  Sadie is a fighter.  In intense pain she still managed to get enough food and water to live until she was rescued.  Even in her compromised state she was gentle and sweet licking the hands of her rescuers.

Memorial Day weekend she was pieced back together by a team of people that are experts in their field.  She spent a couple of weeks recovering in our home on a soft dog bed at my feet while I worked from home.  In all her pain from her injuries and after surgery...she remained pleasant and grateful.

One thing about Sadie that I will never forget...I am left to presume that after being left to die, she must have spent a good deal of her time hungry and thirsty.  To this day, every time she gets fed, she doesn’t scarf it down.  She doesn’t beg at the table.  She doesn’t fight with her foster sister for space at the food bowl.  Instead...every single time...she stops and looks at me with eyes of thankfulness.  When she was first recovering from her surgery, I would put her food in front of her on her bed...she would look me right in the eye and often lick my hand as sort of a doggy “thank you.”

The surgery was a success...her left leg was damaged beyond repair and may one day need to be addressed.  The right hip was mended and after several hydro therapy sessions she is able to walk, run a bit...more typically she has a cute little skip she does to get around the house.

At first, due to her compromised body, it was kind of nice knowing that she wouldn’t have to be trained to stay off the furniture or not hop onto the bed.  Well...much to our delight and chagrin...as she continues to get stronger and stronger...her ability to maneuver around the house like a “normal” dog improves.  She sleeps with us on the bed with the help of a small set of stairs that the neighbor made for her.  Sadie needs some help getting into the car, but can jump out on her own.

Sadie isn’t a “cuddling” kind of dog.  She shows her affection by sitting on you.  If you sit on the floor...ever...expect some company.  She loves to chew on bones and needs a good assortment of toys and chew toys on hand at all times.  Sadie loves to lay out in the sun. My guess is the sun warms her sometimes sore body.

And lets not forget her love for tennis balls.  Nearly every day, we spend several minutes tossing the ball for her and having her bring it back to deny our taking it from her.  Its all part of the game.  She has the soul of a puppy and needs daily exercise with limits.

Her body will never be “normal”...my son teases her that she skipped “leg day” at the gym...but her heart is huge, her mind is sharp. Her special needs pale in comparison to what she would add to the right forever home."

We prefer an adopter with a SINGLE STORY home so Sadie can avoid stairs, thinking of her future when she is an older/senior dog.  Sadie is a very sweet and gentle soul and she has an excellent personality. She gets along well with people, children, and other animals. She is happy and playful and seems to enjoy life! We hope that she will find an adopter who can look past her limitations and realize that she will not be a dog park kind or dog, and that she may end up being a 3-legged dog. She will need to engage in more mellow activities because of her prior injuries. Sadie has a lot of love to give and would like nothing more than to find her forever home! Won’t you give her the love she deserves? If you are interested in adopting this beautiful girl, please fill out an online application right away. Don’t wait!
