Meet Raleigh!
Raleigh was originally adopted from ARWOB in the Fall of 2012, when he was a puppy known as Mickey. Unfortunately, his adopter's circumstances changed permanently and he now needs a new home. (But we left his baby pictures so you know just how cute he's been all his life!)
In the meantime, Raleigh has grown into an athletic, handsome, smart, loving, cuddly, and fun guy! He is happy and active--he LOVES parks, hikes, the beach, fetch and especially other medium-to-large dogs! He is crate-trained and house-broken but should live in a home with an active owner (jogs, etc.), a yard, and perhaps other larger-sized dogs.
He can be a little shy of strangers at first and would do best in a home without small children or small dogs, but is VERY affectionate when he gets to know new people. He can also be a little nervous in new situations, so don't be surprised if you need to have some patience while he warms up.
Raleigh is a dominant dog who is very protective of his people and can also be a little "socially awkward." This is why he needs an experienced adopter who is willing to invest in one-on-one behavior training and has a home with NO CATS or small dogs.
Raleigh is UTD on his shots and has a clean bill of health from the vet. He knows the basic commands of "Sit," "Down," "Shake," and "Roll-Over". Raleigh is very smart and a quick learner and even knows to sit before crossing the street at an intersection! When not showing off his skills, Raleigh is a cuddler who loves to watch TV on the couch and lounge around the house.
He's great in the car and good off-leash with other dogs of similar or larger size. He needs a little additional leash training and an ideal adopter would be committed to providing him a structured environemnt and taking him to obedience or agility classes and working on his socialization in unfamiliar situations since he's a smart, active young pup who can be a little nervous sometimes.
Here’s what Raleigh’s foster mom has to say about him, 10/29/14:
Raleigh is a very sweet dog who just needs some consistency and patience. He is a perfect gentleman at home who is happy to lie on the floor while I cook dinner, watch TV, or work at my computer (although he’s been known to sneak up on the couch when I’m not looking!). He loves to go on walks, fetch the tennis ball, and play with my 2 small dogs. Raleigh is shy with strangers, but we’re working on that with a trainer, and he’s getting better every day. He is an excellent companion who will be a treasured addition to a home where he can feel secure and loved.
If a smart, sweet, athletic, and cuddly pup who will dote on you is what you're looking for, Raleigh is definitely your guy!
Don't wait...Submit an adoption application for him today!
