Ebony is an extremely smart GSD/ Kelpie mix who is about 11 months old, weighs 36 pounds, and is a Baja, Mexico rescue. She is a medium-sized dog, we know she takes great pictures. She just looks like a mini German Shepherd and because of that and her behavioral traits we think she has some Kelpie in her as well. She is a smart dog who is always thinking of something to do. She is a great dog and companion who needs an adopter with time in their schedule so they can help her develop and eventually train her into a great well-mannered dog.
Her current foster mom works full time and volunteers as a foster parent hence she hasn't spend time in teaching Ebony commands but she will learn quickly with an experienced trainer or adopter who is willing to spend time in training classes.
Ebony does very well at home, she is not destructive inside (although when she is outside anything in the yard such as twigs, toys, etc are fair game!). She is crate trained, rides well in the car, does well with both small and large breed dogs, and does well with children. She is OK with indoor cats but she will run after certain cats in the yard and chase them unless you are present to call her at which point she will quickly stop and return. She is not toy or food aggressive and her best friend is a terrier named Choco. Some of her past foster dog friends are the following: Zuko, Tiger Lilly, Canela, Doug, etc and several foster kittens. She will do great in dog parks or agility training.
Ebony sounds great right? Well, there is one small quirk and that is, as mentioned, her foster mom does not have the time to take her for many walks. What we have noticed about Ebony at adoption events is that she gets really excited and displaces her excitement the wrong way by being vocal and pulling on the leash to go say approach and greet other dogs. Once she approaches them she is great and calms down. However, this is a behavior that needs to be worked with and we are seeking a foster parent or adopter who can help this gorgeous girl by exposing her to the world. Repetition, repetition, repetition is what we say! Once she starts going on daily walks and experiencing different activities continuously she will calm down especially with someone who is working with her.
Would you like to adopt her? Foster her or foster to adopt her? Do you have time this summer to volunteer your time and take her for a week or 2 and work with her? She needs you! She doesn't present very well for adopters but she is such a loving, docile yet a good guard dog and will make someone a GREAT loving faithful companion.
We would be happy to pay for the first training session with Randy Davis who is with www.betterbythepound.org, one of our magnificent trainers. In order to do that we need someone who is willing to follow through and focus solely on Ebony, something her current foster mom is unable to do because of the other rescues she cares for.
She is ready to learn and would love to spend time with someone who is ready to teach her. She would love to find a home!
