Palomino is a 12 week old DASH/Siamese/Lynx mix. Paloma and Palomino are 2 kittens of 5 that were rescued from the Carlsbad shelter back in late May. They had arrived and because they were very small needed a care taker right away. These siblings have always been shy around people, we don't believe they were ever feral just never saw or were around people before. Their foster currently has another 6 kittens running around in her home and because of this the kittens just seem to think they are in heaven and have no need for humans as long as they have their kitty friends. We know this is not the best paragraph to get adopters interested in this babies but its the truth and we are seeking an adopter who either has kitty experience socializing kittens or an adopter who is home a lot or their home doesn't have multiple pets in order for them to receive a 1 on 1 petting and play time. We believe within 2-3 weeks there should be a huge difference in how this guys seek love from their human family if they had someone who focused more on them.
Paloma and Palomino just got over a terrible upper respiratory infection (cold) as of early July they are ready for a home. These are some notes from foster parent:
"Paloma and Palomino along with the 6 kitten friends are really mostly allowed in the living room. They will hiss at some dogs but they are very curious about them, a gentle and slow moving dog they are OK with but a hyper running around dog they will 'fluff' up a bit and hiss while holding ground. They do live with dogs and cats. Unfortunately Paloma always runs under the sofa when she thinks you are going to pick her up, Palomino 80% time will stay put just tries to make himself small hoping you don't see him. I really think these poor babies have had such a bad start at life and human introduction. When we first received them you could tell they had been born in the streets because they didn't like to be picked up or approached by people....Then after 2 weeks of being with us and had already made an improvement on their socializing skills they developed a cold which then they just associated people with injections and pilling them, not a very nice experience for 2 kittens who were just starting to trust people."
Paloma and Palomino were almost skin and bones when first arrived to us, now they look very healthy and Palomino like any normal boy is a bit bigger than his sister. These 2 love each other, love to run around, play with toys and chase his foster kitty siblings. The ideal foster or adoptive parent would have 2-4 weeks to be with them and be able to be home to pick them up often giving them attention and a home were they will not have easy access to hiding areas like under sofa or under bed, etc to have them interact more with their human family. They NEVER have tried biting, as a matter of fact when you have them they are very calm, so they are certainly NOT feral kittens AT ALL! A foster family with children or someone who will be home a lot at first will be ideal, they are very safe their 'flight or fight' instinct just kicks in and is always their Flight instinct that they exhibit when scared.
Please, give these little babies a chance, they are beautiful, Paloma is petite and Palomino has HUGE round eye with taller ears (so cute). Palomino is so submissive and Paloma is always seeking to chase or be chased by a kitty friend. They could also be adopted or fostered with another much friendlier kitten like: Grizzly Bear, Panda Bear, Oliver, Freddy or Barney. THANK YOU!
If you are interested and believe you can help save them by offering to help socializing them or are an adopter with time on your hands, PLEASE, file an adoption or fostering application on line and will contact you within 48 hrs. www.arwob.org
