Rio is a 3-year-old Wheaten Terrier/Bearded Collie mix. He came to ARWOB in May from a shelter, and spent time with us in various settings, including for several weeks with a foster family with teenage children and another dog. That family described him as extremely friendly towards people and other dogs, and noted that he was well behaved indoors, walked well on a leash, and rarely barked. They also noted how soft and cuddly he was, and considered him a quick learner. Unfortunately, and to everyone's surprise, shortly after being adopted he exhibited an instance of aggression towards the female adopter, resulting in a bite. He was returned to ARWOB and evaluated by an animal behaviorist, who noted that he reacts to certain movements that apparently trigger a fearful memory. This means that he must be adopted to an EXPERIENCED dog owner, with NO CHILDREN, who understands that certain situations must be avoided (ARWOB can go into this in more detail with a potential adopter). We hope that the right adopter is out there to give Rio a second chance, because we think he will make someone a wonderful pet.
