Scheduled Adoption Events

I met a lady who’s son had a 4 month old dog in a 2 bedroom apartment and 3 kids under the age of 3. The pup wasn’t getting potty trained and left in her crate for 10 hours at a time and wasn’t taken for walks to go potty either. To make her potty less they fed her every other day or every 3 days and limited water. They also hit her when she went potty inside. It took a year for her to understand that I wasn’t mad about it and she eventually started to feel comfortable about asking for outside. She is good about feeding with other dogs and will wait her turn when instructed. She doesn’t wait very long for you to listen to her when she asks to go outside, so she has no problem going potty when she’s ignored. She’s weird about strangers and loves kids and dogs. Will growl when she in not comfortable with someone or another animal. Still trying to get her to calm down and not jump when we get home, she’s sooo excited to see everyone. Loves ice cubes, tug of war, this particular glow in the dark chuck it ball and her kong cone toy. Knows some commands like sit, lay down, leave it, wait, back up, and go around. She walks best with a gentle leader. She has been around horses goats and chickens and isn’t interested in the horses, tries to run and play with the goats but our goats don’t like it, she barks at crows that get too close to the baby chicks and ducklings but I never put the fowl and her together, she just patrols the outer garden gate. Any off leash training has been done in fenced in areas because she will chase a squirrel or rabbit at the ranch and dig a gopher to the center of the earth and forget that I exist. She tends to be afraid of men but will warm up with treats and time. She loves my husband. She will cuddle until the cows come home! We do put her in the crate when we leave for the day but I don’t like putting her in for more than 4 hours. She gets anxious because the other dogs don’t have crates and she wants to be with them. She likes to sleep on top of the couch and put her head on your shoulder when you watch tv. In the winter she will try to get inside your sweater with you. We are located in Alpine 91901 but are happy to drive anywhere in San Diego or meet at a convenient location for us and the applicants.

You can meet Scout at adoption events and we can say she is a pretty wonderful little dog :) 

Scout is a beautiful young adult loving dog who is NOT for everyone. She will need dog training to help her new owners how to help her overcome some trust issues. She likely would do best in a home with women but she LOVES her people so if that means a male presence is in the home it would not be a problem once she gets to know him and learns to trust him as she does her current foster dad.  She likely will need a good potty schedule and her adopters understand she is LIKELY bound to have potty accidents in the home while she maneuvers learning the new protocol/potty schedule in a new environment and home. Please, do NOT apply for Scout if potty accidents will be a determining factor for you to adopt this sweetie. She needs stability and a lifetime commitment not to be moved around for having issues we already know her foster family has worked hard to improve.
