Maggie is a small and sweet little poodle/maltese mix. She is housetrained and she rings a bell to indicate that she needs to go outside. She is 13 pounds, 6yrs old, crate trained, house broken, leash trained, gets along with dogs and cats but will do better in a home without pets. Her adoption fee will be waived, so she can finally go into her forever home.

Maggie does need to be adopted into a home with no children and experienced pet owners would be prefered as the only negative thing about Maggie is she can sometimes 'resource guard' things like toys and other things than she can find in the floor and act like they belong to her and only her. So she needs an adopter who can read behavior and will know how to handle her when she wants to turn into a naughtly girl.

She has been to a behaviorist and we have detailed paperwork as to how to handle her and what to do and not to do when she has those 'moments' which are just occassional.

She was relinquished in October from original owners because she was resource guarding their children toys. She also had luxated bilateral patellas and a torn ACL in her right knee. She has recovered very well from surgery and acts like nothing ever happened by jumping and playing, so she no longer has any physical/medical problems. She is in perfect health.

She needs someone who will let her know what is appropriate to do and what is not appropriate. Like most small breeds she can bark at anyone walking outside or weird/ loud noises but as long as you keep with repetition in comands she does very well and knows she is not allowed to bark, we rarely hear her barking. She will certainly warn you if there is someone at the door.

She loves to cuddle and go for car rides and walks.

We would love to find a forever home for her, please call us to meet with her or visit us online.

Maggie is an affectionate, playful, loving dog who would probably do best in a home that is quiet and where she would receive a lot of attention.  She is a great companion dog!

More about Maggie

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

Special Needs: Maggie was relinquished by her owners in early October and while at her foster parents she was playing with another foster dog when she jumped and hurt her knee. She became acutely lame on the R hind limb and has remained non-weight bearing since. Her physical exam was outstanding, except for the orthopedic examination. She had already lost muscle mass on her right thigh. After 2 weeks of cage rest and medications there was no improvement in Maggie's walking ability and she was still nonweight bearing and very uncomfortable, so we knew she needed surgery. Since Maggie needed a cruciate repair, the group decided to improve her quality of life and avoid any other potential medical problems for her future adopters by repairing her bilateral luxated patellas (knees). Maggie is a champ and is doing extremely well. The vet believes that she will probably need only 4 (and not 6) weeks of recovery time, and just 48 hours after her surgery she is weight bearing in one leg and walking on her own just fine. Of course she spends most of her days inside her cozy crate but when she goes out to potty she is very happy to walk without anyone's help.
