UPDATE 5/22/23:
Nelly was rescued from the street of Ensenada Mexico back in March as a very young puppy found in a carton box along with her siblings. As of 5/2023 she is in san diego staying at Casa de ARWOB along with other arwob rescue dogs and cats.
Nelly is full vaccinated and spayed currently closer to 5 months of age and just under 20 pounds. We believe she can be in the 30-40lb range when full grown. We don't know her breed but from her short smooth coat and her long skinny legs and long snout she resembles a hound mix like a whippet. Granted not many whippets in Baja! So if you like the look of the hound/whippets Nelly would be a great close match but we wouldn't be surprised her DNA comes down with Shepherd and Chihuahua like a super mutt that she is!
She is a young pup so she will need an adopter with time to train and do 101 obedience. She is a very loving dog who warms up to you and enjoys human companionship BUT lets be honest she ADORES dogs. She would likely do best in a home with another dog or perhaps adopt a friend of hers like her BFF Salome or Tito. She adores Tessa but unfortunately Tessa doesn't reciprocate her love ha ha
Having another dog in the home is not a must, adopters who are looking to add their first dog to their home or are a single dog family are welcome to apply but know she would not be a happy girl if she was not socialized around other dogs like doggy day care, parks or friends and neighbor dogs. She is doing great at casa de ARWOB BUT her adopter should be someone who knows about training as we can tell she could develop attachment/anxiety if left home alone under the wrong ownership. Some dogs are more predisposed to not wanting to be alone. She is doing great now because we crate and don't allow fast attachment so if you are looking to adopt Nelly and you work 8hr shifts away from home you would need to be ready to do training to help her. What we say, don't over love them or you can create separation anxiety especially the first couple of months of adopting a new family member. If you work from home or have a large family, great, easier task at hand.
Nelly LOVES to play with toys, she has been known to be a great toy destroyer to get the squeaker! She also loves to run around with her dog friends and play fetch but working on her "drop it". She has not had any accidents in the home, but she has access to the yard, and she loves to be in her dog bed or couch.
So far, this young pup is just a total love bug full of little adorable funny quirks who thrive around her doggy friends. If you'd like to adopt this sweetheart, please submit a dog adoption application online at ARWOB.org and we can schedule a meet and greet to adopt during the week/weekends.
If you prefer to meet her before applying to adopt you can attend any of the June adoption events (check our event calendar on our ARWOB website) and check the animal attendance the day before to make sure she has not been adopted and is attending.
