Meet Salome!
Salome was found as a stray puppy in Baja Mexico back in November 2022. She was found roaming a very busy street by a good Samaritan who knew he had to help her. She was underweight and had sarcoptic mange. Fast fwd a month or two and she is cleared medically. All our rescues finish medical and are sterilized in San Diego. Salome has been in San Diego since February 2022 and unfortunately adoptions are slow and there are no foster homes to be found so she has been staying at casa de ARWOB along with other of our rescues until the day we find a long term foster family or even better a forever family of her own.
Note from one of the volunteers who handled Salome during our monthly hikes:

UPDATE 5/23/23
Not sure why Salome has not been adopted, likely because we have been behind on catching up and had not had a moment (or remembered) to update her biography, so we are doing that NOW as its CRAZY to us she has never received an adoption application. We know she is not an adorable pure breed or sought after type breed as she is absolutely a SUPER-DUPER MUTT and have no idea of what breed she truly is hence the reason we classified her as a "Terrier" in all honesty she is likely a small and large breed mix. She is a small dog in our eyes but since she 27-28 pounds we have to classify her as a medium breed. So, a "small" medium size breed.
She has very dainty little paws but a strong sturdy small body. Personally, I think she has pitbull, chihuahua, Xolo or even Weimaraner! ONLY from the striking solid grey color and beautiful light color eyes. She is already full grown and a perfect match for someone who is looking for a large dog in a small body. She is a super sweet loving, innocent personality, silly goofball who is friendly with all. Let us tell you about this sweet girl in the hopes we can find her a foster or forever family.
Salome is:
Crate trained. She has never had an accident and has not shown any anxiety. She is quiet and patient in the crate. She like the rest of the arwob dogs at casa de arwob sleep in their crate at night 8hrs and through the day they have access to the house/yard while supervised. They all take short nap times in their crate for 2-4hrs at a time. We can't say she is potty or house trained because she is not left alone unsupervised, but she has never had an accident inside the house. She does love to jump high or on things being a teen soon to be a young adult you may find her on top of the couch back rest or a table/chair like an adorable goat but she quickly is off when you ask her. She just needs an actual family to help her refine the manners like any new adopte who has never had a family.
Salome loves dog friends of all sizes and ages. She enjoys running around and playing chase or tug of war. She shares well toys and has not shown resource guarding. She loves any toys but of course specifically chew toys like nylon bones, benabone and any other safe hard material they love to chew. Salome can be found jumping on boulders or finding long branches to try to take home. She enjoys a good salad too! Lettuce, carrots, or twigs! Don't be surprised she will try her best to grab a nice branch hanging low with delicious Leafs for her to eat, what can we say she likes her veggies! ha ha
Salome rides well in the car and doesn't get car sick..
She is not a big barky dog and we rarely hear her even when playing with the dogs.
She can be a gentle player but also don't be surprised to see her playing and having rough wrestling matches as she tends to match the energy of other dogs so if you have a dog who likes to use the yard as a WWF wrestling arena she would welcome the match!
She is a little mouthy, meaning she is learning when she comes to the human for petting, she doesn't need to put your hand inside her mouth to lick and slightly yet gently nibble on. We are teaching her to accept being petted vs placing your hand in her mouth as her way to say 'i like you human!" so a family with children would need to be aware she has some 'manners' to learn and this little girl be refined a little.
Salome has an innocence about her of just being grateful, loving, playful and a good hearted girl looking for no trouble just enjoying life.
We think she would do well with either a novice/first time dog owner or an experienced adopter. She can be adopted as the only dog in the family or with several dogs in the family. She has exposure to the cats at casa de ARWOB and has not shown any aggression so we are fairly confident she would enjoy feline friends but would need supervision at the beginning. She would also enjoy children as she is a child herself and likely would love to have little humans to have adventures with. She would be an excellent running, hiking partner because she certainly needs an active adopter or a family with a large yard because as good and chilled as she is she will always enjoy running around with her dog friends like dog parks. Doggy day care or at home. She is a good dog but will need energy outlets. I actually think skating or agility would be something she would enjoy. Dog training is a must for ANY of our rescue dogs of any breed or age but dogs like Salome especially since she needs dog training 101 manners and easy for any adopter to do if they are willing to train their new adoptee.
To meet Salome visit her at any of weekend adoption events in June.
We also hold monthly hike packs with some of arwob dogs you are welcome to join and take her on the hike yourself OR submit a dog adoption application online and we will be happy to set up a meet and greet outside of adoption events at a convenient time/day for us and applicant.
Salome is in the 92117 area.
