Meet Mia!
UPDATE 9-1-22 - Here is what Mia's foster family has to say about her:
"Mia is a very loving, affectionate kitten. She seeks attention, cuddles, and purrs like a tractor when picked up. At the same time, she is independent and could play for hours with toys and with one of our cats TJ. We recommend that she be adopted with another kitten or into a home with a playful, energetic cat that needs a friend. Our 6-year-old niece visited us for a few weeks, and they immediately became friends. Mia let our niece carry her around and would completely relax in her arms. By the way, Mia doesn't bite or scratch either of us. She lets us trim her claws, brush her teeth with no problem, and she loves belly rubs! She is also good with our calm dog Layla and sometimes plays with her tail."
ORIGNAL RESCUE STORY:
This adorable little ball of tabbiness is as cute as they come!!
She was rescued by an ARWOB volunteer who had just moved to a new home and encountered a stray cat situation in her neighborhood and in her own back yard. There was a family of kitties, about 2-3 adults and 3 kittens who would seek refuge in her yard. She inquired about how to help them and it was agreed she would TNR the family to help them stop reproducing as they were not very social, but also not feral and what is called "community cats".
The day of TNR came and, at first, only the 3 babies fell into the traps, however once the medical was done before releasing them all, she had concerns about releasing the smallest of them all and wondered if she could instead foster the kitten to see if she would come around from 'feral' to social. What was the harm? NOTHING! Had the kitten not done well, she could be released in the backyard and be back with her family. Instead, it was found within 3 days of her being in foster care in her little cat condo that she was affectionate and seeking attention. With that,the rest is history and she became her first foster kitten! They named her Mia and this is what her foster has to say about this little adorable tiny thing:
NOTE: Mia is now has the run of the house along with the resident adult felines and adult medium size dog and has no problem with them. No exposure to children but she will be fine with gentle, well mannered children who know hot to be around young kittens.
Foster update as of 7/11:
Mia is a wonderful, playful, and cuddly kitten! We found her visiting our yard with her mom, a feral cat. Her mom (who we named Marcy) is a slender, gentle cat, and Mia looks remarkably like her! When we first started fostering Mia, she, of course, wasn't used to human touch, but just in a couple of days, she transformed into a purring, playful house kitten. She loves following us around, playing with her gnome toy, and is always happy to interact with us.
She is still very careful in new surroundings, but she is curious and exploring more of our house. We recommend that Mia be adopted by someone who can spend enough time with her to continue building her confidence. She is good and friendly with our two cats and our dog. Note that our dogs is very chill and loves cats, so it was an easy introduction. Mia is very playful with our cat, TJ. They spend hours together and immediately run toward each other when they wake up from naps. She is a little character and spends 80% of her time playing with kitty TJ, enjoying kitten "zoomies" and exploring. The other 20% of her time she spends climbing up on her foster parents (see pics) or curling up on her foster mom's lap while she is working at her desk. Mia loves to be held and is a purr monster, sounding like a tractor, letting you know how much she enjoys being close to her humans!
Summary of adoption process:
Submit an application online @ ARWOB.org, contact us via email within 3 days to check on the status of your application IF you have not heard from one of our volunteers first.
Once a phone interview is scheduled (typically 10-15min chat) we can finish processing the adoption or foster application and hopefully move forward to set up a meet and greet in 92117 area
Typically, adopted or foster kitties go home the same day as the meeting.
If the adoption application is not approved you will receive an email with notification.
Adoptions can take 2-7 days from the time we receive application to the day kitty goes home.
It's really dependent on applicants' ability to provide the rescue group with the items needed to finalize an adoption. For example - if you rent, we recommend you have already received written approval from your landlord stating you may have a cat or multiple as that would be a determining factor on how FAST an adoption occurs.
We DO NOT place Holds on rescues- IF you are not ready to adopt within the week you submit the application we recommend waiting to submit an application until you are ready, as that rescue may no longer be available when you are ready.
WE DO NOT DO SAME DAY ADOPTIONS - IF you are looking for a NOW/TODAY adoption, don't waste your time submitting an application online and we recommend you visit your local city shelter to find a new family member.
