Meet Patrick Aka Patrick Swayze!
Some people who are seeking a cat are simply missing some companionship, or perhaps really want a soft buddy to pet.
Patrick Swayze (as I call him) is not an average cat. He is a dynamic feline who really wants to be your best friend. Once you make friends with him, he's a pal who won't let you have a bad day when he's around. He shoves his head into you and insists on sharing his love. Patrick is happiest when his person/people are around, but he does just fine being alone during a normal work day (he just hopes you'll change your mind and stay home with him). He is a very silly cat who likes to chatter and tell you about how he's feeling. He makes little talking noises that aren't loud, but rather more like he's making sure you're paying attention to him. He likes to knead on soft blankets/beds, and sometimes he kneads on his human's arm or body. He happily flops onto his side and rolls back and forth. He is absolutely gaga about string toys, and loves to run all over to chase them. He has lived successfully with other cats, but I get the feeling he would do just fine on his own with his human(s) all to himself.
Some additional notes from Patrick's foster mom:
- He is very comfortable in a small space (my office).. While he has come out once and spent time in the living area, he prefers the cozy foster space. I could definitely foresee him preferring a smaller home or apartment. At the very least, a new adopter will need to set up a sanctuary room for him and allow him to explore the rest of the home on his own time.
- He's VERY vocal. He wants someone around a lot, if he has it his way. He prefers a ton of affection and he loves to play by chasing after strings. He is fine when I leave the foster room - he does cry softly for a little bit, but then is quiet within a few minutes.
- He is easily trainable. He was willing to get into a carrier and onto my scale, each with very minimal coaching. We are working on paw touches, toward the goal of nail trims where he participates in them willingly.
- He goes on high alert quickly - when he hears my other cats, or a strange noise, or when somebody is walking around and the door is open. I suspect this would largely go away over time, as he settles into the entire home, but I also suspect he will always be a somewhat sensitive cat.
- He enjoys bird watching from the window.
- He's extremely silly. He loves rolling back and forth while on his back. He is okay with gentle tummy touches, but it will quickly go into prey-play mode if you continue too long.
- He is okay being held for a short period once he trusts you, but I think he much prefers to be on the floor with you.
- He doesn't try to get on my lap, but he is easy enough to coax onto my lap for treats. He just doesn't prefer to stay there for long.
- He wants to be athletic and likes high spots. He took to my cat towers immediately. He was up on the towers and cat shelves before he was comfortable with me. It took him about 3 days to feel comfortable in the room and come to me when I called him.
- He is very respectful of my belongings in my office. He doesn't go out of his way to mess things up or play with anything. He occasionally knocks something down, but it all appears to be accidental. A few things get knocked down from the high shelves here and there, and but I can tell he's just exploring, and not trying to play with the items.
- Overall, I think Patrick could easily live without other cats, as long as he has a human who wants to hang out with him often and provide fun for him. I haven't had him interact with my other cats beyond thru the door, and he is on edge but interested.
(Note: in the past, when in the adoption center, he interacted with the other cats and formed a BFF relationship with Tiger Lily). In his other foster home, he was with multiple cats and did not mind sharing spaces as you can see on one of his picutres! He just needs plenty of one on one time with his human as well.
*Once you submit an adoption application online if the cat you select is no longer available or is not a match for you but you are interested in other cats there is NO need to resubmit an application, just request ARWOB transfers that application to another rescue cat you'd like to meet which we currently have available for adoption or if you see someone in the future you'd like to meet please contact the group and request to reactive your application.
Notes for applicants:
-We do NOT place holds on rescues, please, do not submit an application unless you are READY to adopt MEOW.
-We require landlord approvals. if you rent, you should have written landlord approval before you apply to adopt a cat as we can't hold adoptions back or place hold on rescues.
