Meet Corrine!
UPDATE 10-2-21: Here is what Corrine's foster mom has to say about her:
"Corrine continues to sleep 22-23 hours a day, but when she’s awake, she is happy and waggy. Her schedule is very regular: sleep, do her business, drink water, eat, repeat. She has developed a bit of a senior puppy incontinence issue over the past few months that we are attempting to control with medication. During the day, she will always let you know when she needs to go out, and she uses a pee-pee pad when she needs to go at night.
Corrine is always very excited about mealtime, and sometimes prefers when she has some company while she dines. She loves to take short walks (three houses up and back), although there is more sniffing going on than walking, so patience is a virtue.
We doubt Corrine has ever lived with anyone who gave her love and attention, so she doesn’t seem to know what that’s all about. It took her several months before she trusted me, but now she seeks me out for pets and snacks. She’s still not a cuddler, preferring to cover herself up with blankets in a warm bed or crate. She doesn’t like to be picked up and will tolerate sitting on my lap only for a few minutes before she wants down. Corrine is fine with small, gentle dogs, or would be fine without canine companions. She is fine around my dogs but she doesn’t interact with them except for the occasional sniff.
Bottom line: If you’re looking for an older, little dog who you can take to cafes and to friend’s houses, Corrine is probably not your girl. She just needs a loving, attentive person who’s not expecting much back from her, and who is prepared to let her live out her life in a safe home."
UPDATE 4-17-21: Here is what Corrine's foster mom has to say about her:
"Corrine is a sweet old gal who doesn’t let her age get in her way. She’s obviously had a rough life and is happy to indulge in the warm hugs and snuggles, soft beds, friendly dogs, and regular meals that she’s experiencing now. Corrine needs her humans to go slow at first while she takes time to trust again. She is getting used to being held and is even staying on my lap for awhile and sometimes falling asleep. Her preferred places to enjoy the day are on a bed in the sun, in her crate where she masterfully covers herself in a blanket, or in a bed next to wherever I am at the moment.
Corrine sleeps a lot—about 23 hours a day. She gets up often to check out what’s going on, walk around the yard, check in with me and the other dogs, and then goes back to sleep. She is happy in her bed or crate, snoozing away for 10-12 hours overnight and is not an early riser.
She appreciates an audience while she eats, which doesn’t always follow the normal breakfast and dinner routine of other dogs. As she’s not a morning person; brunch is more her style. When she first arrived, I put her in a doggie sling and walked her around the block, which she seemed to appreciate. But very quickly, she made it known that she would prefer to put on a harness and walk up the street and back. She spends more time sniffing than walking but seems to love the exercise.
Corrine lost one of her eyes (we believe from a past trauma) and her remaining eye is cloudy, but she can make her way around any house and mastered the stairs to the backyard in no time. She is also deaf but doesn’t let that stop her either.
Corrine is completely comfortable with my small dogs. She encountered my friend’s gentle, large dog, who seemed to startle her, but she stood her ground and let him know she not to be messed with, and all was fine! She is potty trained, letting you know she needs to go out by finding you and staring you down. And Corrine does great in the car and she does not bark at all. Instead, when she wants my attention or can’t find me, she makes the cutest little noises.
For someone who wants a sweet, independent, older dog who’s just looking for a warm place to nap, some yummy food, and lots of love, Corrine is perfect for you."
