Meet Rosemary!
UPDATE 4-17-21: Rosemary is on a foster-to-adopt trial and we should know her status in 1-2 weeks. You are welcome to check back then, but we think she has found her forever family.
UPDATE 3-28-21: Here are some recent observations from Rosemary's foster family:
"She is doing fantastic! She loves human companionship and is very curious! She's a sweetheart who loves to play (lots of energy) and loves to take naps right between her humans!!! She's still apprehensive about being carried. She will make a wonderful addition to a loving family who has the patience to win her trust. She is very special."
UPDATE 3-13-21: Here is what Rosemary's foster family has to say about her:
"Once you earn Rosemary's trust you can see how loving she is. She loves attention, being petted and playing with her toys! Especially her wands with feathers on the end. She loves to lay close to you to sleep. She is a bit skittish with noises. She needs to be reassured with soft voice and petting. She can get a bit nervous the way you approach when you're standing over her (a soft growl it seems to show us that she's afraid). We are practicing carrying her so she can get used to that. We feel the she is really coming out of her shell because she feels safe with us."
MORE ABOUT ROSEMARY:
Rosemary was rescued from the Tijuana, Mexico Perrera aka dog pound.
We found out about her and her five, 4 week old kittens (Oregano, Pepper and Sage, (who are still available for adoption) and her need to be rescued as she was scheduled to be killed, not euthanized, since that would entitle "pain free death", but killed like drowning which is a barbaric way still used in some Baja dog pounds.
We realized when we took her in that the kittens were social and she was apprehensive about being touched. She and babies went to a foster home for about 2 months where they were thriving and Rosemary came around a lot with the helpl of her foster mom.
Sadly, sometime in July, the family came down with ringworm and later an upper respiratory infection, which meant that all of these kits had to be unavailable for adoption and quarantined for a couple of months. Rosemary, being shy and not handling medicated baths, we had to do only oral meds which took longer for her skin to get better.
They are all cleared and ready for adoption, again. The kittens are in foster homes doing great, but Rosemary is in a kennel setting and although she is now "used" to being in a "cage" setting, we would love for her to have the freedom of a room. Mostly, where she can slowly retrain to being ok walked up to and approached by people, being picked up, and socialized. She currently is exposed to other adult cats and dogs, but doesn't interact with them. She also isn't around children.
What's likely the best home for Rosemary?
Someone who has a space (maybe a bedroom or laundry room or even bathroom) where she can be set up to help socialize her. We could even loan a large dog kennel where she can be housed, but focusing on taking her out of the kennel several times a day to pick her up, socialize, pet her, and get her exposed and used to being approached and handled by people. She seems to enjoy it, but she can also meow/vocalize with some hesitation/distress of uncertainty. She wants to be petted, but she may be a little awkward about it. Also, she gets excited when being fed and does some strong "head buttings", when getting her booty or chin scratched. She can get a little over stimulated and do some "love bites" so you have to be observant to make sure she doesn't do it then or, if she does, to keep it gentle. She is great with her liitter box usage. She's only 9lbs, very calm, gentle, and easy going.
Can she do well in a home with dogs, cats or kids? Probably ok in a home with all or none.
She has seen dogs and cats all the time, she isn't necessarily social or does not really nteract with them, as she likes to find a little area to hide or see them from afar. Kids, because she can feel exited about being petted or stressed when picked up, would have to be only older kids and kids who can be supervised so they know when she is warning that she doesn't want to be picked up or has had enough of being petted.
Note: Whoever fosters or adopts her also would need an area where she can be prevented from hiding like under a bed. Otherwise, she will hide and only come out for food, which is what we want to avoid. We need someone to help her learn to be comfortable in a room without hiding, hence the right environment to help her adjust, progress and improve. She has so much potential and just needs that extra care and socialization in order to help her find the home she deserves.
