If you are only interested in temporarily Fostering one of our rescues, please fill out a Foster Application.

UPDATE 6/10/20: 

“Palomo is doing great on his house training and has had no issues after the first week. He is on antibiotics for an infection that was acquired while he was living in Mexico that will need to be continued for a couple more weeks (it is not contagious to people or other dogs so not an issue should he have any furry siblings or playmates). Since being on the antibiotics his appetite has improved dramatically and he will now happily gulp down dry kibble. His energy has also perked up a bit. He has discovered a love of balls and is learning to fetch. He loves walks around the neighborhood and is starting to learn how to play with toys. It is still unclear how he will do with cats, he will sometimes get a little riled up watching the rabbits hop around but doesn't try to attack. He will try to chase squirrels, birds, and lizards outside though." 




UPDATE 5/22/20: 

“In brief I would say he is a fairly low maintenance dog that would do well in a low key/ low activity household. Just needs snuggles, belly rubs, and a few walks a day. Still working on house training, has been doing good after the first 2 days as long as I keep an eye on him and take him out about 4-5 times a day. Does well in his crate and in the car. He is not into toys at all, tried them all. He will instigate play with Paco but after 30 seconds or so gets tired/bored/realizes he is out of his league against a 70lb opponent. He behaves fine at the dog park but doesn't necessarily "need" to go, he will sometimes run with other dogs but otherwise mostly keeps to himself or follows me around. His walks seem to be sufficient exercise for him. He LOVES his walks, does fairly well on his leash. He will bark at people about half the time, but isn't reactive toward other dogs. Due to social distancing we haven't had any greetings on leash, but there are several neighborhood dogs that hang out in their front yards and bark at us when we walk by but Palomo doesn't react. Also fine with the rabbits. It took him 2 days to even notice them. They are not super quick moving/skittish so not sure how he would do with cats. He does go crazy when we see squirrels on our walks. Haven't encountered any of the neighborhood outdoor/stray cats yet. He is a little difficult to train because he is not food motivated, but with the right treats it can be done. (Not toy/play motivated either as per above). He does not seem to know any commands yet (I tried both in English and Spanish to verify), nor does he seem to even know his name. Contemplating if I should even try to teach it to him, in case his new family wants to change it again. He is learning to sit. Also, super picky eater! Tried every way under the sun to get him to eat kibble but he refused. He will wolf down canned food though. But mostly just at dinner. Not really into breakfast.”

ORIGINAL RESCUE STORY:

   Palomo was rescued by an indie rescuer in March of 2018 and, sadly, has been stuck with the foster in Ensenada for a couple of years due to a lack of interest. He lives in a home with several adults and several dog friends, however, he spends a lot of time in the patio and rarely inside. We would love a foster home for this guy so we can get to know him more and show him what a family and house environment is like. He can be adopted or fostered to adopt. In either case, an adoption application should be submitted and he will need a foster as soon as 4/29.To apply to foster to adopt or to adopt; please submit an adoption application online at arwob.org
