Frodo and Sam are two adorable little guys who happened to arrive to ARWOB by chance.
One of our volunteers was browsing through FB and happened to come across a post from an indie rescuer seeking help with donations for food. As she was browsing through the comments she noticed someone had posted a picture of a kitten he had rescued and was currently being treated for his 'eye infection'. Thankfuly the volunteer is a vet tech and when she saw the picture she knew it was MORE than just that, his eye was on the verge of bursting and looked extremely painful. When she asked him about the kitten he said he has had him for 3 weeks. It was clear the vet care and assesment was not correct and she offered to take him in to be seen by our vets. Arrangements were made and he also requested that we take his brother and, of course, we couldn't separate them.
The next day both brothers arrived and went to the vet. Sadly Frodo's eye had already burst and could barely be seen. Since both kittens were malnourished and weak, it was obvious the worst pain had already passed and poor little Frodo is such a trooper he has always been happy, active and with an excellent appetite, so we waited a week and then little Frodo had his left eye enucleated.
We are happy to say this little guy went from a little shy introverted kitten, to an outgoing, sweet boy just like his brother, likely because the pain was finally gone. Both boys are now starting their rotation at the cat adoption centers as of the first week of August and we hope they don't last long and find their forever family SOON. We expect they will be a bit shy until they feel comfident of their new surroundings and hope adopters give them a chance to come around.
We would love for these 2 brothers to be adopted together, but they are very cat friendly and very dog curious so if another cat was in the home we would be ok separating them, although these 2 boys are a perfect duo.
ARWOB prefers to adopt kittens under 6 months of age to families who have other feline family members or planning on adopting 2 cats together. 2 kittens from the same litter or 'mix and match' with other of the ARWOB kittens. Thinking outside the box, adopting an adult cat and a kitten together would help the forgotten adult kittens while also enjoying the VERY short time frame a kitten will stay small. Remember kittens will reach full size within 10 months of age, kittens are not just a NOW adoption but a LIFETIME adoption which is a 10-20 year commitment.
