Meet Decker!

Deckers is a very handsome sweet young dog. We don't know his back story ei where he comes from and what was his life before he came to ARWOB but what we do know, its how his second chance at safety and love from a family started.
Decker was not rescued by ARWOB directly, he was actually rescued by an indie rescuer 'Babs' who dedicates her free time to help unite families beloved lost dogs with their families. She is what we call in the rescue community an experienced trapper. She is the best of the best at helping lost dogs who aren't easily approachable when loose on the street because of different factors and a trap needs to be used to be able to rescue them from the dangers of the streets. Every dog has a story and even the most social and friendly of dogs under the wrong circumstances and experience could be terrified and sadly go on survival mode which many times means staying away from people.
Deckers story began when he was seen running around Lemon Grove. Babs got a call after multiple Good Samaritans and Animal Control had tried to get him safe but he evaded all efforts. Homeowners had established food stations which kept him in the area and one owner in particular had a dog he really liked. Babs went over set the Trap and got him safe. No microchip and sadly at this point no owner identified or claimed him while at the shelter. Babs requested help for him to be placed in finding a forever family and that is where ARWOB comes into play.
Decker is now an ARWOB rescue and we want nothing more than to find an amazing family for this guy, knowing he has a past of being able to be handled/grabbed if he is running loose. To avoid this we want to make sure his new family has a SECURED fully fenced at least 6 feet fence and is able to enroll in dog training classes to help him with recall and basic training to make sure IF he ever ends up loose that he will revert to things he knows, like being called. ITS AN EASY ask since everything else about Decker seems to be perfect! His videos and pictures say it all!
This guy had a hard time from the month of October and November being placed in shelter and boarding and initially with a very inexperienced foster and he was not thriving but once placed with the perfect matched foster he has shown confidence, security and has opened himself up to be loved and LOVES to love his people. As you can see, having dog and cat friends is also a plus for him!
Decker is 1-2yrs old approx 40lbs its hard to tell if he is a rat terrier, bull terrier, Basenji but he is certainly a handsome fellow. His foster family live in the 92130 zip code and we would love to set up a meet and greet with families interested in adopting him once we received dog adoption applications submited online for him at arwob.org

Decker is Super sweet, cuddly, affectionate, VERY smart, potty trained, listens well and eagered to please, complete cuddle bug who loves to sleep in bed or couch, he is polite and fairly quiet (these resemble basenji qualities)
Decker is great in the crate but sometimes it will take him a couple minutes to settle down and whines for 1-2 minutes, however, for the most part now he walks into his crate on his own and unlike the first couple of days of his arrival when he used to destroy his bedding inside his crate NOW, he loves to sleep in his beeding and doesn't destroy it anymore, he is trully great in the crate now.
Decker is certainly very puppy like with his puppy behavior and will get into puppy shenanigans like getting into the trash bags or taking food off the counter is food is left unsupervised. One thing we know for SURE, he LOVES to play with dogs and other toys like tag and tug of war. Excellent running partner. And although he had a rough start with learning to walk on the leash now he is very good.
